Default 2001 monte carlo v6 3.4 liter

I got a 2001 monte carlo been driving it for two weeks and I noticed white smoke coming from the exhaust? There was a small amount off clear liquid by the tail pipe...Is it a head gasket or lower intake gasket? Remember it is a 3.4 liter!!!

Welcome to the forum.

I manually completed your registration for you. So if you get the confirmation email instructing you to click a link to complete your registration, you can ignore it.

It's true that the 3.4 litre 3400 engines have a known issue with the Lower Intake Manifold gasket. An issue I had personal experience with in my previous car.

If you make sure the bolts are correctly torqued down, you shouldn't have any future problems. However, if you already have a leak, you'll need to take care of fixing the leak first. If I remember correctly, GM started making different bolts for those engines sometime around 2002 or 2003. They were supposed to stay torqued down better.

As far as I know, there was no recall on those engines. Just a Technical Service Bulletin. Probably because it's not an immediate safety problem.

I won't lie to you. The 3.4 isn't going to give you sports-car performance. And because it was discontinued after a short 6 year run, there's not a lot of performance bolt-ons for it. But it is a good engine that won't empty your wallet at the gas pump.

I should add that the 3400 engine is not the same 3.4 litre engine in the 5th generation Z34 Monte Carlos.
