1998 monte security light flashing won't start

Default 1998 monte security light flashing won't start

the security light started flashing after i came out of the restarant for dinner and hasnt started since if i need to replace the ignition please tell me how i have the dash pretty much apart help please

I don't think it's your ignition if your security light is flashing. I bet it has something to do with the VATS system in your car. There are several ways to override it if that's the case.

It might just be as simple as getting a new key or trying with a spare. The small resistor chip in the key could be giving the VATS system a false reading.

i bought the car with only one key the dealership said that i need two keys to train a new one

i've tried leaving it in the on position for 20m minute that didn't work i disconnected the battery for 24 hours that didn't work so i just thought igintion change to be my only option left

Get an ohm meter. See how much resistance the key has. Get resistors to match the amount and hook them into the antitheft system under the dash.

Or replace the ignition switch.

Option one is the way to go. I did it pretty easily in less than an hour.

clean key with clorox wipe wait 20 mins and she will start i had one key the gm dealership made me a new one for 15 bucks and has worked like a charm since october. Go to the customization dept they have the tool to tell them your code and all took me a total of 15 min.

car has to be left alone battery in for atleast 20 min when flashing try cleaning the key hole with compressed air as well any dirt or water causes a different resistance maening KEEP IT CLEAN AND DRY AT ALL TIMES

i'l try the compressed air tomorrow but if that doesnt work ill need to know if i need to take the steering wheel off to get the ignition out i have most of the dash off any help will be appreciated

I have faith your igniton is fine it the light is flashing.
