Being the flagman back then is no worse than flagging street raceing...LOL
I mean that looks truly unsafe dangeriously close to being on a suicide mission!... I like being close to the action... However thats a bit to close for my likeing!
I guess though like the edwards crash, Thank god it held up and noone was killed!

That Carl Edwards crash looked a lot like Allison's 86 crash too...
Back in the 50's the speeds weren't much more than 145-150 mph flat out on the end of the straightaway, averaging 130 or so.... so the cars very rarelly took off like airplanes... usually they just barrel rolled like there was no end of it... or punched a hole in the wall and went flying into the parking lots.

Ah, MCF fantasy. Time to get ready for my second season. I hope military duty doesn't get in the way like it did last year on one of the latter races of the season. That being said, here are my picks.
Dale Jr
Biffle
Hamlin

Classic NASCAR Photo of the Day
This is David Pearson in the pits in the 1969 Firecracker 400. The Ford teams figured out that if you ran the exhaust out the back instead of hte side, the engnie got about 20-40 more hp.... so naturally, that's what they did!
As an added bonus, the hot air blowing over the radiators of the other cars in the already hot Daytona heat ni the summer time made them hard to draft off and sling shot past.
I initially thought only Lee Roy did this trick but it appears some other Ford's did as well.
Photo has the Don Hunter look to it....

I think we may have discusseed this along the way last year...
Or a post earlier in the beginning of this thread... about yarbourough useing that trick... Who would think that that did make a difference where drafting is concerned?
Those tail pipes look like the back of my monte and sierra.
lol
