First off, lets congratulate Keane (Leprechaun93) on his second win in three weeks. That moved him up to 2nd in the overall poitns! Congrats to Carl Martin (carlm54stl) for holding that points lead, and congrats to Mike Beck (03JGMonte) for holding the Segment 3 points lead

Last year, the guy who left Michigan with the points lead never gave it up. That was where I took the points lead and held it through Homestead. Right now, Carl doesn't look like he will be overtaken, and I don't think he has given up the points lead since Darlington....

Michigan History

This is a great track that dates all the way back to 1969. The first race here was scheduled to run 600 miles, but rain cut it down to about 400. Every year afterwords, they decided 400 would be better than 600 anyway.

Then this picture from 1970 start.... Yarborough was going to try to win the race on 3 stops where as the faster Dodges had to make 4. He was about to make it work, but with 10 laps to go, his engine let go in turn 4 and he crashed it. Charlie Glotzbach earned his last superspeedway win as the race ended under caution.

Intro to this week

We're back to Michigan, the only place Junior can win a race these days. Clearly, the favorite cars right now are the Hendrick cars, but in the last couple of weeks the Roush cars seem to be getting some of the speed abck, although the results don't quite show that. Michigan is a great track for FoMoCo, and I feel like the 1 Dodge will be a factor too.

A couple of things to keep in mind are durabiltiy and fuel mileage. Right now, Toyota doesn't seem to have either one. Jimmie Johnson, Marcos Ambrose, and a few other guys seem to be lacking that fuel mileage right now.

The Favorites

The first and most obvious has to be Dale Earnhardt Jr. You have ot suspect he'll bring the same ca,r the same set up, and he should be incontention again. And that goes for most all the Hendrick cars...

Kahne is good at Michigan, and the Hendrick power should do him well.

I'm tempted to throw Jimmie Johnson into "one to watch" and not a favorite. The reason is just his fuel mileage. I think he will run well, but should we get that fuel mileage run at the end of the race, I'm not sure the 48 can hold up.

I feel like Matt Kenseht and Greg Biffle are starting to strike on some of that early season form. They were in contention at Pocono until that restart incident, and I think all the Roush cars could be factors at Michigan. Including Carl Edwards. Edwards had some speed back at Pocono, but just couldn't get there. This is one of his better tracks, and with an okay run at Watkins Glen, a win in the Nationwide race, I think he might just be back.

Ones to Watch

Stewart is my first one. He wasn't up to stuff in Indianapolis, Loudon, he did okay in Pocono, and he really got lucky at Daytona, plus, he spun out at Watkins Glen.... the luck seems to be slipping away from Smoke. The defending champion just doens't have it right now.

Brad Keselowski runs well here, and if he catches the breaks right, his Dodge might just win at Michigan.

I think Ambrose could be one to watch with that whole wild card thing looming on him.

Ryan Newman is, as I always say, the guy who wins his 1-2 races a year and runs like crap everywhere else. Well right now, he is running for a job, so he needs a good run at Michigan.

The reliabiltiy doesn't seem to hit the MWR Toyotas quite like the Gibbs Toyotas this year... unless that car is the 55, which was last at Watkins Glen and blew up in the closing laps at Michigan. With that in mind, I think Bowyer and Truex are regaining some form right now.

The ones to avoid

My other ones to avoid.... the rest of the Toyotas. They're going to practice and qualify well. But Kyle Busch was blowing up or something at the end of Watkins Glen, Denny Hamlin did blow up, and Joey Logano was in the garage for a long time. With the long straightaways and high speeds seen at Michigan, I just can't trust a Toyota to go the distance. I think the cars to pick have to be American based.

Although, I really do want to throw the whole Toyota camp and maybe even Tony Stewart in this group.

My Picks

I think I am going to do something I normally wouldn't... I know that a lot of people are going to pick Hendrick, so I'm going to have to do soemthing a little bit different and hope it works.... All ROUSH!!!

1) Matt Kenseth
2) Greg Biffle
3) Carl Edwards

Of course, subject to some editing.
