Important Administrative Announcement
This will be the last rundown I write for at least two weeks. I will be taking a sabattical to go on vacation by taking a Route 66 tour in the Ford Torino. In my place, Jerry and Hunter Smith (77GP and silverfish33) have agreed to handle the points. Next week, Carl Martin (carlm54stl) will be writing the rundown for Sonoma and the rundown for Kentucky the following week. I plan to be back to handle the points for Kentucky and do the rundown for Daytona.
Points and Congratulatory Remarks
Congrats to STUMPMI Dave for getting a win in Pocono! At the same time, I took over both the Segment 2 and the Overall points leads, but just barely! There is still that two guy breakaway in the overall points but the Segment is still a tight race! between 3 people with a couple of long shots in there!

Intro to Michigan
I've got to say I think about the only teams worth picking this weekend are Chevrolets. The Ford's started to turn a corner and had some speed in Pocono, but they can't seem to pass. The Toyotas were allegedly tuned down a little for durabiltiy but one race isn't enough to convince me. Plus, they didn't seem to have the straightaway speed of the Chevrolets or even the Ford's for that matter. So it seems to me the only temas worth picking for this week are bow ties! But there is one Chevrolet that just seems snake bitten....
CHEVROLET TEAMS
Hendrick
An obvious choice for many this week might be Jimmie Johnson. But you're betting on him to turn a corner that he has never done at Michigan. Jimmie Johnson has never won here! He gets behind on adjustments, he runs out of fuel, he blows engines, he gets in crashes. I believe he has even led the white flag lap here before. But he has never won. While JImmie is a hot hand, and he has such a points lead that he can just go for wins now, you're still betting against history if you pick him.
You're not betting against history if you pick Dale Jr though! This seems to be the only track he can win at anymore. His last two victories in the past 4 years have come here... and he has run well for the last couple of weeks.
Kasey Kahne is sharp at Michigan too. Look out!
Jeff Gordon is on this streak where he runs good one week, and crappy the next. He ran good at Dover, then crappy at Pocono... so he should run good at Michigan this week.
Childress Racing
The only car worth picking out of this crowd is Kevin Harvick. Harvick is consistent and the set up of a track like Michigan really suits his driving style.
Stewart Haas
This team seems to finally be hitting on something. Ryan Newman, however, still seems to be the ring leader. He was the best car in this camp at Dover unitl he crashed, and he as a few top 5's going. Look out for wrecking Ryan! Of course, Pony Stewart isn't a bad choice either...
Furniture Row
I think this is another track that would suit Kurt Busch. I think it would be interesting to see what they do... but I'm really interested in what they will do in Sonoma next week.
FORD TEAMS
Michigan couldnt' come at ab etter time for Ford. This is one of their best tracks... but so was Dover.
Roush
Edwards was good at Michigan until that stop where they didn't get tires, then they free fell. Michigan is one of his best tracks and it will be fun to see what happens. It seems like maybe biffle was on to something at the end of the race and Edwards did lead laps... so maybe this comes at a good time.
Stenhouse... well, what can you say? See what that rookies got!
Penske
Keselowski showed some speed at Michigan but couldn't pull the package together. Logano wasn't as fast as some might have hoped. One thing going for it though is that Michigan is Keselowski's home state and he should have some drive and determination.
Petty
The road courses can't coem fast enoguh for these guys. Almirola had a streak going for a while but it seems to be over. This team tends to fall apart when the thermometer starts rising in the summer.
TOYOTA TEAMS
I just don't know if a Toyota is worth picking. At the endo f hte Pocono race, most of hte cars up front had Hendrick Chevrolet engines... with the seeming shortage of power out of the 'Yotas and the reliability issues of late, I just can't justify choosing a Toyota. Any of them are good drivers with a good history at Micghian, but I justdon't trust their engines right now...
Gibbs Racing
All three dr ivers are excelent here. Any of them could win. However, Busch has a tendency to overdrive and that will get you in trouble at Michigan. I have to think you should stay away from him but ify ou want to go for a Yota, go for Kenseth or Hamster.
Michael Waltrip Racing
IT seems like some speed is really missing with this Gen 6... they don't have the resources to adapt that Gibbs have apparently. With the reliability hangin over them, I have to think if your'e going to pick a Toyota, pick a Gibbs version.

I have no one for this race just yet! Got to sit back and think about my picks. But this race is a BORING ONE to watch on tv or from the stands. I've did both for yrs living in Mi. Penke needs to reshape That track. Bulldoze that thing an start fresh!
