For Las Vegas!
We celebrate the championship here at the end of the year, but ofr now we have to race here! Several miles north of the Las Vegas strip lies the Las Vegas Motor Speedway... the next exit has a truck stop... but oging up I-15 after that, there is nothing til you get your @$$ to St. George, UT..... well, beautiful scenery... that's it.
Coming in from the south, you see this big mountain ahead of you in the desert... then yo ucrest the mountain and look down upon Las Vegas, NV.... interesting!
But about the track... being hte first 1.5 mile race of the year will mean it will be indicative of first half of the season for a lot of teams. Lets see how we can do....
CHEVROLET TEAMS
Hendrick
We expect the Hendrick group to always have it together, especially with big rules changes. Johnson hitned that the changes may take time to adapt to though.... so we'll see how it goes. I think the setups are going back to teh way that Jeff Gordon/Dale Earnahrdt, Jr. like their cars though, cosnidering the good runs both made at Phoenix. Kahne has been a little bit shy of exciting since going to Hendrick, honestly.
Stewart Haas
The only one worth a damn at Daytona or Phoenix was Harvick... honestly, I don't see a lot to shout about out of the other two.. Ku. Busch wasn't running all that great until the engine blew either....
Childress
Newman is good on flat tracks anyway and he ran well at Phoenix. Ithink Vegas will show if he will really benefit from moving to Childress.....
Ganassi
McMurray ran okay for a few weeks and Larson is learning the ropes... we'll see how it all goes, but I don't ocnsider McMurray a contender.
FORD TEAMS
At least the FoMoCo and GM crowd have shut out the 'Yotas so far...
Penske
It seems BK and Joey have it figured out. They were spectacular in Daytona, and great at Phoenix. I think this will be a tell tell race for thethem like everyone else. I think they're obviously the lead Ford team right now.
Roush
Edwards and Biffle are in contract, so we'll have to see how they do... they were good in Daytona and Edwards was good in Phoenix so we'll have ot see how they shake up.
Petty
These guys traditionally emerge very strong in the first several 1.5's of the season and Almirola ran well in Phoenix. They might be good "sleepers"
TOYOTA TEAMS
Gibbs
I don't know how they're going to do. Tehy weren't good last year in Phoenix anyway, and they were good in race trim at Daytona. This will be a big test of the 'Yota teams this week.
MWR
I swear this team hasn't run worth a crap since all that mess in Richmond came down...
MY PICKS
Ford's were fast in qualifying! Are they fast enough to win?
1) Brad Keselowski
2) Carl Edwards
3) Joey Logano
