If by NASCAR God's you mean the France family, I agree with you...

I am about to go to work right now... one of these days you'll have to get me to tell you all about how NASCAR apparently has an "anything for Chevrolet" rule.

A poll on race hub surprised me... 54% of people voted that Junior should sit out the rest of the season as a precautionary measure. The crew cheifs are saying nohting will carry over to next season.... he won't dig out of that 12th place hole, and there are only 4 races left to run. Some think he should just go ahead and take vacation early and make sure hei s good and rested.... come back to drive the 2013 car. Interesting theory.

And I totally agree with that theory. He has little to gain by coming back now, although there is a pretty good chance he'll win Martinsville. I figure that must be whats motivating him. But Martinsville could be a jarring ride too. Probably not any real hard impacts though. Why take a chance? Another concussion now is most certainly career ending. I almost hope he isn't cleared to return - but not because I don't wish him well...

We often forget those drivers of the past who, knowing what we know now, probably died of racing related injuries.

Lee Roy Yarbrough is one of my favorite drivers, as many of you know. Lee Roy won 7 superspeedway races in 1969, more than anyone until 2 years later wehn Bobby Allison did that trick even better in a Holman Moody owned 1969 Mercury Cyclone.

He had a testing crash at Texas World Speedway,(NOT THE TRACK THAT IS IN TEXAS TODAY) and suffered a bad brain injury... not known to many at the time. Cale Yarborough flew him home and for several days, Lee Roy didn't seem to knwo what had happened.

He eventually resorted to alcohol, which probbaly had some long term affects. But he is believed to haev died from lesions on the brain caused by repeated blows... probably some of the crashes he had that he kept racing with.

He eventually died in 1984, after being in a mental hospital for 4 years. He came home one day and told his mother "I'm sorry, but I have to kill you" and attempted to strangle her. He had obviously lost his mind, and the alcohol wasn't helping. He had won races, been married, ahd it all, but was back to living in the projects of Jacksonville, FL.

Long story... but you can read ti here.

Another is this letter to Dale Jr and his fans written by Amanda Lorenzen, which I posted last week in the Charlotte thread. Lorenzen was the all time money winner in NASCAR at one time.. won 27 races before retiring in 1967.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s decision to sit applauded by former NASCAR star's daughter - NASCAR - Sporting News

As much as us diehard earnhardt fans figured this was his season for a possible championship, and being so competitive.its to bad that he's going thru this for sure...but,better to be safe than sorry I always say....
