He was a bit of a one hit wonder. He won a lot of races for a while but something just didn't mesh with that team anymore after 2000... he left the team in about 2003-4 or so.
After that he went to very small junk teams. Petty (before the merger) he had a few good runs. then the 96 ask.com team. They pulled him the last 10 races i favor of a rookie coming through the natiowide years.
Then TRG... dont mention that...
But he finally has a home here with JTG Daugherty racing.
Finished 4th in the 500 in 2011. Pushed The rookie to the win. no one can seem to remember that.
Refresher:
Then last year 14th in the daytona 500.
Can't wait to see him back in victory lane i hope this year is the year.
His last CUP win was 2003 season finally. won a Nationwide race in 07, sling shoted tony stewart for that win.
GO BOBBY!
No disrespect but not sure how a NASCAR historian can call bobby labonte a one time wonder?
from 95-05 he was always someone who you could count on being up front all race. Always fighting for the win had a lot of good races with Dale Sr.
He is a busch siries and cup series championship. Only He and Brad Keselowski have done that in the history of NASCAR.

Oh, there's Devin with his Bobster! I used to be a big Bobby fan (when he drove the Interstate Batteries car), although Earnhardt Sr. was my #1.
Sr. is definitely missed. Nobody will ever match that man's driving style. He was the best to watch. The way he would take that #3 anywhere on the track he wanted, even if that meant scraping and pushing others out of the way. Great stuff.
Since his passing, I have been a Kevin Harvick fan all the way. Similar driving style and temper. I still remember watching Harvick's first win, at Atlanta only three races after taking over Sr's ride, bashing all the way down the front stretch with Jeff Gordon and holding him off. I was hooked on Harvick from then on.
I still get chills from watching the finish of the 2007 Daytona 500. Nobody saw that coming. When Harvick pulled on the outside with two to go (Kenseth following) I remember thinking to myself "he's got this" and, between him and Kenseth, they nailed that one. Those two on that outside line were on rails. I'm glad they let them race to the finish line... with the wreck behind them, that's how it should be.
Refresher anyone?

I like Kevin! i root for him to do well every weekend.
That's the last 500 I can remember being up out of my seat yelling at the television. Since then, the last five have been meh.
What I mean by "one time wonder" is there weren't really any other seasons where he contended for hte title. Top 5? Yes. Multiple win seasons? Oh yeah. But he really only made on serious run for the title.
For example, I would say Carl Edwards has only made 2 serious runs, e ven though he has 19 wins and been 2nd in the points twice, he's had several other good points finishes, but only twice going for a title.\
The title of historian was not given by me.. 'Space gave me that title about 2 years ago so my certification is a little 'Spacey
The whole "overshadowed by the new guy" thing... I wonder if that's why Kenseth left Roush. Kenseth got the Cat in the Hat 2 Daytona 500's and a championship, but they put all the money, marketting, and good cars to Carl Edwards. While Kenseth is over there saying, "Hey... I'm still winning races for you.... I won you that championship...."

Classic NASCAR Photo of thet Day:
Here is one from the Bill Daniels Collection! Cale Yarborough blew a tire and crashed hard in the 1969 Daytona 500... a disappointment for sure after winning the race and several others in 1968. Here is he being hauled away from his car.
