Picks/Daytona 500/Sun.Afternoon
================================
I was disqualified to race this year & failed inspection due to illegal spaceJet Fuel.
Sadly, I don't have time to watch or follow the race, but will be checking/reading our NASCAR HISTORIAN `Duane's Update. I don't want to interfere with member's points by just making lucky guesses.
Wish everyone a super Nascar Racing year...Good Luck on your Picks ~>EnJoy 4-Sure

Awww, Space... it won't be the same without your picks/guesses/random draws/Space dreams/insert method here. I think I will count your picks anyway. Besides, Daytona has been a lucky guess for just about everyone here lately.
Oh, and Space, we're imposing another infraction for your modification of the word "IMPALA" to say "PAL,"
You're going to start the season like 200 points in the hole like Carl Long did that one time!!!
It's pretty clever though.. never saw "pal" in "Impala." Alan Kulwicki modified the front of his Thunderbird to say "Underbird" in 1992 at Atlanta. He had to get permission from NASCAR and Ford to do it though.

You can't just leave us Space!!! I'll even repeal your points penalty for illegal fuel if you agree to join back up for another run!
And by the way, last call to get those picks in for this race!! We have until about 12:15 pm tomorrow afternoon to get them in!

I've had 10 old Daytona 500s from ESPN Classics recorded on the DVR and I've been watching them to prep myself for tomorrows race. I've also been outside with the buffer, rubbing compound, and machine polish buffing on my car. I can't seem to completely shake this pneumonia and I'm back on antibiotics for it. Tired of being sick. I do'nt feel sick or anything, but I cna't get rid of the cough!
So I've had everything from the early 90s to about 1999-2000 or so on these races and I've been watching. I knew Earnhardt was close so many times, but from about 1987-88 onward, he was the favorite to win just about every Daytona 500.
Also, Jimmy Fennig, crew chief for Matt Kenseth tomorrow, was the crew chief for Bobby Allison when the father son duo of Bobby and Davey ran 1-2 at Daytona in 1988.
And maybe the dumbest rule I've ever seen. NASCAR amde a rule for the 1991 Daytoan 500 to keep from having every car on pit road at the same time like was happening in the "Days of Thunder" days of 1989-1990, NASCAR issued a sticker to your windshield, and when the corresponding flag color was displayed about every lap to 2 laps, that was your lap that you ahd the option to pit without penalty. If you pitted when your flag wasn't out, then you were penalized 15 seconds. This was all following a pit crew member of Bill Elliott being killed on pit road. 1991 was the first year of pit road speed limits. To prevent from having 30-40 cars on pit road, especially at the beginning of the race, the rule was designed to only have 15 or so cars on the pit road at one time. Pretty interesting, but a rule I'm glad isn't in effect anymore.
I'm ready for this race. The racing this year looks a lot more like the old racing than in the past( except in Nationwid eracing.) The packs just keep getting tighter and tighter as the years go by. Watcyhing all of this leads me to believe that the next logical step to racing closer and closer was really to start the 2 car draft. Now we're trying to backstep a bit instead of go forward, so it's pretty interesting to watch.
Looks like we've got about 20 people (if I don't take Space seriously and count his picks, despite him saying not to) with picks to run for the Daytona 500. I'm going to go ahead and throw out the warning that I won't be able to get this stuff posted as quickly as I could last year. For one, I'm out of practice, for two, there are twice as many picks to scrore as i am used to.
Also, if there is another of these last lap crashes or something controversial to throw off the scoring for the race, I'm not going to score it again later and try to make corrections. If they roll them across the line cleanly, I'll get right on it. If not, I may just wait an hour or so.
Still about 13 hours to get those picks in, guys!

My father always suggested that Nascar makes pit row dangerous by ever closing it. If pit row were always open, it wouldn't be so busy when it is open - and wouldn't be so dangerous. Traditionally, leaving it open would complicate scoring to much, but with the sophisticated electronic scoring they use today it could be done.
I'm doing my part to make scoring easier! Maybe this is the real motivation behind the new rule?
Ain't no maybe! You gotta pick one trio! You really gonna leave Harvick on the shelf?
Why wouldn't we count your picks? Cause they are guesses?!? Duane draws little plastic *****. Some just pick their favorite driver (not me!) Some are probably just naming the only 3 drivers they know (like the way I picked Indy).
It don't matter how you pick. Its not about how you play the game, but whether you win or lose. Isn't that the saying? 'Space is in!

After all the other racing i've seen so far this year this will be either the best 500 we've seen in a long time. I'm glad to see 20 people want to get involved, I hope the play along all season.
Duane I was just thinking maybe you should do 2 threads every week. One for the rundown, picks and results and a separate one for comments and other random stuff about the race. just a thought to make things easier on you.
