THE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

Okay, so here's my thoughts....

Kyle Busch: Really good in the regular season, but he seems to always fall off some in the Chase nad just not secure the deal. Remember when he fell apart in 2008 going in as the favorite? YEah, I think he will do better, but I do'nt think he will this year. Not yet.

Kevin Harvick: now an experienced title contender. I'm looking out for him, he's getting his momentum back, and if he hits his stride well, I think Harvick will be a major contender this year.

JEff Gordon: Haven'ts een that look in his eye since he nearly won it all in '07. There's something different this year... he and Gustafson are good, they're beating Jimmie every chance they can, and now they're in the title hunt.

Matt Kenseth: strong and staedy driver. He hasn't had a lot of momentum since earlier in the year as far as winning races, but he's been slipping up there into the top 10 nearly every week, or atleast contending for top 10's. The 1.5's are good for Roush

Carl Edwards: He seems to be gaining some momentum too in Atlanta and Richmond. I have a feeling Roush has been holding back something for these 1.5s as that's their bread and butter. However, he's always had bad luck in the hcase... engines blowing up, distributors going bad, ignition box failure.... in atleast one race. Usually Charlotte.

Jimmie Johnson: He's having one of his better years.. he was the points leader, and despite only one win, he is running VERY well!!! I still say he is the guy to beat for this thing... we lal know how he kicks it up a couple of nothces for the chase every year.

Kurt Busch: The Penske power is a live at the right time. However, I think Kurt will screw it all up somehow. He just caves under the pressure too often to me.

Ryan Newman: How did he even get into the chase? He'll be 9-12 fodder.

Tony Stewart: Here by accidetn and wasting a spot. I say he makes top 10 though.

Dale Earnhardt Jr: Despite making the chas,e he's on a backwards slide and has been since June. I say he ends up 11-12th area.

Brad KEselowski: On the upswing, but I don't anticipate a championship jsut yet. Not enough experience, plus, he's back to running Nationwide, os his focus isn't all where it belongs. I say he makes the Top 10, but not a contender in Homestead.

Dennis Hamlin: Probably will barelly crack the top 10.... won't be last ,but won't be a threat either.

This Week

Just what the doctor ordered for the chase: Another 1.5 mile mild banked intermediate track. *sighs* I'm looking forward to teh chase, but not looking forward to all of these intermediates... geez, half the chase.....

Anywho, not a lot of history... Reutimanns only win, Harvick got a win here, Gordon's done well here over the years.....

Richard Childress Racing

Kevin Harvick is spectacular at Chicagoland!!! He's had a few bad runs when Childress was down a few years ago, but he was good last year, and I think with the momentum that team is gaining back with their last 2 races, Harvick is a man on a mission to beat Jimmie and this is a great track to do that.

I wouldn't evne worry about the rest of this team.

Hendrick Motorsports

Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson are great drivers at Chicagoland. Gordon shoudl have had this thing last year, but Letarte couldn't keep up with the track apparently. This yea,r Gordon has a fire under him, and he's won this race. Jimmie has not, but Jimmie has good stats. I wouldn't be shocked to see another Jeff vs. Jimmie show.

Junior just doesn't have the momentum, and neither does Mark Martin. Begin the rebuke, Brent.

Stewart Haas

Stewart has great numbers at this track, but this hasn't been a good year for him. He needs to make something happen... he did well at Atlanta, one of his best tracks, but I'm a little hesitant on him for this week. I just don't know how that team is doing right now... plus, his time of the year, summer, is over.

Roush Racing

I have the feeling that Roush has been holding out for a couple of months waiting to get back to the cookie cutter intermediate 1.5's. They need to get some momentum going for the chase.

But like much of the year, the only Roush drivers you should worry about are Carl Edwards and Matt Kenseth. Last year, under the lights, Edwards was the fastest car at the end. Kenseth has been fast all year. I'll probably be trying to squeeze a Roush Ford into my line up.

Joe Gibbs Racing

Dennis Hamster is in one of those years where he is hanging on by the skin of his teeth. This is an okay track for him, but I'm not looking for him this week...

Kyle Busch on the other hand is good pretty much anywhere. He's got a win and a pair of top 5's, but his average finish like nearly 14th.

So take your chacnes.. Busch is good this year, they have a new engine program at Gibbs, so it's hard to say what will happen exactly. I don't think many on this forum have a problem avoiding Toyotas though.

Penske Racing

They're looking hot right now!!

Keselowski is great, but I just don't think he has the car where it was when he was focusing solely on cup and ignoring Nationwide. Fro that reason, I think his momentum is going to being a slow, steady decline until at least next year. He ran good this week, but still.... just odn't see it happening. I'm going to be stepping off that Keselowski band wagon for a little while unless I see something proving otherwise.

Kurt Busch is having a good year.. I'd anticipate a good finish, but I don't know if I'm going to expect a win or a championship out of him.

Randomn @$$Hats

Brian Vickers has an average finish here of 8.8. However, he seems more itnerested in keeping others from going than going himself. I'm leary of him despite his good stats.

A.J. Allmendinger is good here despite his team. HE has an average finish near 13th, and he's having a career year right now. Look out for those long shots!!!

Reutimann has his only real win here (he won Charlotte on a rain race soooo yeah), but I don't see it happening again. Waltrips team just isn't where it was last year as far as I can tell.

2 years ago, Martin entered the Chase in last, just squeaking in, and gave Jimmie as good of a run as anyone has in the last 5 years.

That's about all I got. But everyone thought I was crazy when I said Martin was going to win that Championship too. After he won the first race of the Chase people started listening. And these mile-and-a-half have sort of been Jr's forté this year...

No fair, noone has been picking Harvick till they see your post rundown. Playing it safe HUH. I am busy this week so I better make mine now.
1. Harvick
2. Stewart
3 Kyke Busch
Good Luck
I too chose Harve for the championshiop, Gordon 2nd, and if I could choose who would be last, I would hope for Johnson. Wouldnt that just be outstanding.
