Yep, here's a picture of Petty's Torino

In 1968 Petty was running a Plymouth Roadrunner that he felt was uncompetitve on superspeedways and insisted to Mopar that he be able to run the Charger 500 (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH A CHARGER DAYTONA, HERE IS A CHARGER 500!!)

Notice the differences, the grill is flush with the hood, all that neat stuff... very subtle differences.
Anyways, they wouldn't let hiom.. Petty was good for the Plymouth name. So Petty struck a one year deal with Ford.
On Superspeedways, Ford brought out the Talladega Torino. It has an extended front nose, rolled under rocker panels under the doors, and a slightly reworked rear end geometry that allowed the car to sit lower to the ground and the front end was more aerodynamic than my car, about 600 were made.

The standard Torino was run on all tracks in 1968, the fastback, like mine.. in 1969, Torino fastbacks were used on short tracks but any track over 1 mile, then considered a superspeedway, where high speeds were a factor, these Talladega Torino's came out and Petty ran those. He won 10 races to David Pearsons 11. He was running right down to the wire with Pearson for the championship in 1969, but crashed in the last race at North Carolina Motor Speedway in Rockingham, NC and Pearson ran 2nd to clinch the championship, both drivers running Torino Talladegas.
In 1970, the Superbird came out. Richard Petty won 18 races in this car, but an injury at Darlington Speedway forced him to sit out several races, allowing Bobby Issac and his Dodge Chargers and Dodge Charger Daytona to win the championship.

Yeah, you know how these things are Brent... if you don't nail everything just right, it never looks right. you've got about the best Dale Jr. street replica that may ever run the roads, kudos to you and whoever cut those decals. Maybe I'll get another Torino and restore it to a Petty car! :-D
And by the way, the 1969 David Pearson car.... he's known for driving a Mercury for the Wood Brothers, but in 1969, the Ford factory team was Holman-Moody, and here is his car...

And a Talladega version!

By the way... Carl Edwards was fastest in 1st practice, set the pole, and was fastest in final practice, THEN won the Nationwide race...
Hey Carl, this is how you were supposed to run in the beginning of the year, then you might actually be in title contention!!!

I love those old cars! It was so much cooler when they race cars that looked like real cars. Street replicas can look so much more like the real thing!
Carl sure looks good this weekend. I don't really remember PIR ever really being his track. But I do know Martin has run exceptional there, especially over the last few years. He didn't qualify that well tho. But Neither did Jimmie and nobody is expecting a 21st out of him. AJ qualified well and I really hope he can get one of these because its really looking like he may be out of a ride next year. Those RPM cars are still fast and all qualified better then the RedBull brat Kasey Kahne.
I also wanted to defend Kyle Busch for a moments (and I never defend Kyle Busch). This last week he was fined $25,000 for "flipping off" an official during the race at Texas. He did it during a pass through (pit row speeding penalty) and he was given another pass through penalty for it at the time. Which is fine, but I don't think Nascar should be able to penalize him twice for the same incident. And, why can he intentionally wreck another competitor, endangering fellow drivers & fans, doing thousands of dollars in damage and creating countless labour hours in repairs & clean up, and completely change the outcome of the race but not get any penalty. But he offends a big bad Nascar official, without consequence, and he was handed one of the stiffest penalties of the year. That's not right!
Anyways, Texas was a hell of a race and going to be tough to follow. Fuel/pit stategy will ultimately find the winner this week, which is why patient guys like Jimmie & Mark do well here
ma picks:
1. Mark Martin
2. Jimmie Johnson
3. AJ Allmendinger
last: Mike Bliss
1st caution: Robbie Gordon
#of cautions: 5
Good chevy day - 6 in the top 10

Well, the first time Carl Edwards has won since I've owned the Torino. So he was the fastest in all practice sessions, won the pole, and won the race, and I'm pretty excited about it!!!
And what's the deal with the Toyota's? The Toyota's were pitting at the end of the race for fuel... the Ford's and Chevy's kept going. What gives, boys?

The Toyota's might have gotten better mileage, but the thottle was stuck on those cars!
Congrats to Carl (and Duane)! I was pissed off at him earlier this year, but was rooting for him in the end. I just bought my baby a toy Carl car for Christmas earlier this week too. Martin survived
