the roush cars are going to be tough to beat in michigan!! i hope tony's momentum can carry him into a good finish. i will say michigan is (sometimes) one of the boring races though, it's such a big track and the racing is not always exciting. not that i won't watch it! although last week i missed it and tony won...i am rather superstitious when it comes to sports...

ahhhh. i can't miss it though!

my picks:

1. tony stewart (yeah back to back! )
2. carl edwards
3. denny hamlin

it might end up being another fuel-mileage strategic race ending this weekend.

i'm with wayne on the truck race - GO RON HORNADAY!!! i love that dude. he is one of the most exciting people i've ever watched race, and from what one of our california instructors that knows him well tells me, is a lot of fun and a really nice guy. plus i'm a harvick fan as well and i'm always glad to see DELANA HARVICK'S truck do well she is really my nascar idol!!!!

MIS is as close to a hometown track as I have. I used to go to every race until I realized Jamie Lynn was right - the races are boring there. Its still fun to be in the "Nascar environment", but MIS has the worst traffic management that I have ever seen (after the race). After last time I swore off ever returning.

Anyways, my picks:

1. Carl Edwards
2. Dale Jr.
3. Mark Martin

Would have been a good week to pick John Andretti - he qualified 10th. But no.

there is something about the 2 mile tracks (michigan & california) that makes the racing there boring. tracks that are bigger (talladega, daytona, indianapolis & pocono) have more exciting racing due to either the track shape (indy, pocono) or restrictor plate racing. smaller speedways, the eight million 1.5 mile D-shaped ovals on the circuit, are more exciting because they run so fast and there is a lot of give-and-take with positions. and of course short tracks are always exciting due to the bumpin' & bangin' the cars are constantly doing. but those 2 mile tracks...there's just not much excitement. once they get spread out, there is not a lot of back-and-forth between positions, it takes the leaders FOREVER to get caught up to lapped traffic, and usually once the leader gets a couple of car lengths out in front, he's gone and there's no catching him.

of course i'll still watch the race, though probably not with as much enthusiasm as watching a race at talladega, atlanta or richmond.

the above is all, of course, IMHO. /end soapbox.

and congrats to joey logano for his win in the nationwide race at kentucky last night! i watched most of it but i went to bed before the end. (which is why i'm up so freakin' early today!!!!) he passed kyle busch, who led 162 of 200 laps, with 10 laps to go, and pulled away to win by a good margin. kyle did call his 2nd place finish though; after he finished 2nd in the truck race to colin braun, during his post race interview he said he was going to go to kentucky and run 2nd in the NW race. he was being his regular ol' smartass self, of course. but he DID call it.

according to carl edwards, nascar "screwed up" on pit road with the speeding penalties. there were a total of 25 speeding penalties coming on or coming off pit road. that is INSANE. i'm curious to see what comes of this, because i believe there was something wrong with their scoring transponder system last night. carl edwards said he got caught speeding once and the next time he hit pit road he was going much slower and *still* got another penalty. he came on the radio to his crew afterwards and was really upset and said nascar needed to look into it. i hope they do, because i've never seen anything like that before.
