NASCAR Rac'in: August 19,21,22,23, 2009
I know it may seem a little early to start this thread. Nascar.com has no posts about next weekend yet, but like I said, I leave for Bristol very early tomorrow, so I at least wanted to get my picks in.
My picks usually rely heavily on practice times, so I could be way off this time, since as of this post nobody has even arrived in Bristol, let alone begun practice. Unfortunately, I think Kyle Busch will do a lot better at Bristol then MIS, and probably better than Vickers as well. Martin & Jimmie will redeem themselves and Clint Bowyer is coming on strong. I've really been impressed with Bowyer when it come to the Chase - he's virtually always been a factor since starting Sprint Cup. RCR really threw him a curve this year and he's coming out on top again. I don't know why Childress doesn't recognize him as his top tier driver - he should be the one at the top rung of that team. Peblo will also be looking to redeem, but I'm still waiting to see him lose his patience too. As for underdogs, Regan Smith has shown most success on Superspeedways, but they say when he was originally signed with DEI that he was a "short track ace". I want to see him break through as he still hasn't been given the break he deserves. And speaking of not getting a deserved break - Aric Amirola will attempt to make the race behind the wheel of the 08 car (not to be confused with EGR's #8 - screw that! It my #8). Unfortunately, I don't expect him to make it into the field. 48 cars are on the entry list, include guaranteed start Terry Labonte with the PC. That means 12 drivers vying for 7 spots.
My picks:
1. Jimmie Johnson
2. Mark Martin
3. Clint Bowyer
And lets pick the causer of the first caution. I could pick Robby Gordon again, but thats like shooting fish in a barrel. Its not like I'm going out on a limb when I choose...
1st caution: Paul Menard
That guy should be homeless
All 4 of Nascar's major divisions are racing in Bristol this week. Ryan Newman will make history by being the first to race in each division at one track in one "weekend" (he, to the best of my knowledge, is the only one trying this). I'll be there in person, but everything is televised starting Wednesday on Speed. Have a good week folks and enjoy the races!
