Logano Comes Full Circle at Dover
RADIO ANSWER: Dover Did You Know: Over the past 12 years in the spring race, there have been 12 different winners at this track. The last repeat winner was in 1996, can you name that driver? —Jeff Gordon
Raybestos Rookie of the Year candidate Joey Logano returns to the Monster Mile, site of his national-series debut last spring. He finished sixth in the NASCAR Nationwide Series event there.
Now, Logano, 19, is in his first NASCAR Sprint season for Joe Gibbs Racing. After a rough start, he’s logged two top-10 finishes in his last three races, including a ninth in Monday’s rain-shortened Coca-Cola 600.
That finish propelled him five spots in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings, to 25th. He’s paired with veteran crew chief Greg Zipadelli, who guided Tony Stewart to two series titles.
Fantasy Picks: Gotta go with Roush
Roush Fenway Racing A Dover Threat
Excepting Matt Kenseth’s back-to-back, season-opening wins, Roush Fenway Racing’s five NASCAR Sprint Cup teams are still searching for their stride. They may find it this week at Dover, where Jack Roush drivers have won five of the last 10 events.
PLAY OUR FANTASY RACING GAMES
Greg Biffle has two of those wins, including last September’s event. He also was the runner-up to last spring’s Dover winner, Kyle Busch.
Biffle leads several important pre-race Loop Data categories for Dover – Driver Rating (116.6) Average Running Position (6.403), Fastest Laps Run (332), Fastest Late in a Run (140.445 mph) and Laps in the Top 15 (3,026).
Kenseth leads Laps Led (627), Fastest Drivers Early in a Run (144.877) and Fastest on Restarts (142.982 mph) at Dover since the inception of the statistics in 2005.

McGREW NAMED INTERIM CREW CHIEF OF NO. 88 SPRINT CUP TEAM
CONCORD, N.C. (May 28, 2009) – Hendrick Motorsports today named Lance McGrew as interim crew chief of the No. 88 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team of driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. beginning with the June 7 event at Pocono Raceway. Team manager Brian Whitesell will lead the team this weekend at Dover, Del.
“Our performance hasn’t been where it should be,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “It’s impossible to pin that on any one factor, but a change is the right decision at this point. We have a plan in place, and we’re going to move forward with it.”

Dover’s Pit Road Makeover
Dover Pit-Road Improvements Complete
Thanks to winter construction, Dover now has a longer, safer pit wall.
The new 1,592-foot concrete wall extends from Turn 4 down the frontstretch and into Turn 1. It’s 432 feet longer than the old steel wall, and is wrapped with SAFER barrier.
The construction also allowed Dover Motorsports officials to widen and improve pit road – now four feet wider, supplying more passing room. All 43 stalls are four feet longer – 32 feet compared to their previous length of 28 feet.
New apron space also was created at the entrance to pit road, allowing cars more room to slow down before crossing the commitment line.
Dover Powerhouse Drivers
Watch out for Mark Martin and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings leader Jeff Gordon at Dover. Both lead all active drivers with four wins each there while Jimmie Johnson and Ryan Newman both have three Dover wins.
Newman, Gordon and Martin also lead all active drivers with four poles each at Dover.
Martin, however, statistically rules the Monster Mile. He leads all drivers with 21 top fives and 28 top 10s there; also with 23 lead-lap finishes.
Kyle Busch, currently sixth in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings, is the defending winner of this Dover race.
Newman, coming off a fourth consecutive top-five finish (he was the runner-up in Monday’s rain-shortened Coca-Cola 600), now moves to one of his best tracks. He’s seventh in the standings, continuing the new Stewart-Haas Racing’s recent strong outings. Team co-owner Tony Stewart is second in the standings behind Gordon.
Robby Gordon: Innovating or Cheating?
So it seems a popular topic of discussion is NASCAR’s penalties to the 7 team of Robby Gordon. Apparently Robby was caught with an illegal rear axle housing and was docked 50 points and his crew chief fined $50,000 and placed on probation until December 31st. This is a blow to the one car team that finished 3rd in Monday’s rain delayed race.
One has to wonder was this really a case of cheating or was the team trying something out that didn’t work for them?
On another note, what really is cheating in NASCAR? Back when, everyone used to cheat. Or was it innovate? Even before the rule book was written (in pencil), there were many grey areas in NASCAR and things have changed dramatically. The governing bodies issued templates for just about everything. Its any wonder to me that the drivers themselves don’t have to be a certain weight.
So what really is considered cheating? I mean, everyone wants to get that advantage over the other guys, this is why they work on the cars during pit stops and pay engineers to give them an edge. Its a thin line between cheating and innovating.

No time for excuses for Dale Jr or KidSpace
Why didn't things work between Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his cousin? The driver doesn't know. One thing he does know, however, is that he'll be the one to answer for his success -- how he lived up to his father's name, and everyone else's expectations.

AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! those last 10 laps i was biting my lip and i almost had a nervous breakdown, hahaha! it was definitely very very exciting and i knew tony wasn't going to be able to hold jimmie off till the end, i was surprised he stayed in front as long as he did. i love races like that and especially when it involves 2 of the best drivers in the sport.
i was keeping up with the real-time points standings during the race, and was begging jeff gordon to stay a lap down (sorry josh!) because it put tony in the points lead. there was a lot of jockeying around between tony, gordon, jimmie and kurt busch since 3 of them were running up front a lot. i wish i could have been a fly on the wall during stewart-haas's competition meeting today, i bet they all needed sunglasses from the glare of all those ear to ear smiles!! i am so happy for them.
i saw a couple pics of tony from practice on friday, he looked like he had got punched in the face. i have no idea what happened?
had i been around to make picks, space you would have been close i would have picked tony to win, kyle busch 2nd and denny hamlin 3rd. i would not have had a very good day other than tony.
after the race was over they were interviewing dale jr., and he was very emotional and sounded like he was choking up a bit. i feel so bad for the guy, he's always in the spotlight and must feel so much pressure. and then to be separated from your best friend who you've been with forever. he did a great job in the race though.
