Bet On Stewart To Bounce Back – Again
Everyone is waiting for what seems like the inevitable resurgence by Tony Stewart. And what better time than this week? While Stewart has yet to win the Daytona 500, he nearly did this past February, finishing third after losing the lead on the final lap.

Always looks like he needs a shower/bath [8D]And overall, he has 12 victories at Daytona International Speedway, including two times (2005-06) in the Coke Zero 400. Here are the other 10:
Gatorade Duel at Daytona – 2;
Budweiser Shootout – 3;
NASCAR Nationwide Series – 3;
International Race of Champions (2).

Stewart, ninth in points, has a 31-race winless streak. But he typically excels when summer arrives. He indeed excelled this past Sunday at New Hampshire, leading 132 laps before finishing 13th in the rain-shortened race.

Never Bet Against Gordon At Daytona
Like his fellow former series champion Stewart, Jeff Gordon has his own winless streak – 22 races. And, like Stewart, Gordon has a history of success at Daytona International Speedway.

Gordon, sixth in points thanks mainly to seven top-five runs thus far, has an impressive 13 Daytona victories to his credit, starting with three Daytona 500s and three Coke Zero 400 victories. The others:
Gatorade Duel at Daytona – 4;
Budweiser Shootout – 2;
International Race of Champions – 1.

Earnhardt Still Third In Points
Having snapped his own long winless streak earlier this season at Michigan, Dale Earnhardt Jr. comes into Daytona third in points – where he has resided for the last 10 weeks.
Earnhardt has 12 Daytona victories, a splendid record starting with his emotional July 2001 victory in the Coke Zero 400. The rest of his Daytona victory story:
Daytona 500 – 1;
NASCAR Nationwide Series – 5;
Gatorade Duel at Daytona – 3;
Budweiser Shootout – 2.

Rick Hendrick and Mark Martin took to the stage at the Daytona International media center to make things official. Mark Martin will drive the #5 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy for the full schedule in 2009. Mark hopes for a chance at getting his first Cup Series Championship. Rick Hendrick said this was 15 years in the making, and Mark said most of this deal was done by text messaging, a sign of the times I guess.

Randy Moss Motorsports to Debut

Jul 04, 2008 at 09:11 AM

Daytona Beach, Florida (July 3, 2008) - Randy Moss, NFL All Pro wide receiver with the New England Patriots, will make his debut as a NASCAR team owner on July 19 in the Built Ford Tough 225 at Kentucky Speedway. Moss has purchased a 50-percent stake in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team owned by long-time series participant David Dollar. Dollar’s team, known as Morgan-Dollar Motorsports, will be renamed Randy Moss Motorsports effective immediately.

“We looked at a lot of different options and we’ve decided to align with David Dollar’s team rather than build an operation from scratch,” Moss said. “He has an existing team with a state-of-the-art shop, all the parts and pieces it takes to do this and do it well, and some of the best people in the Craftsman Truck Series garage area. The team has contended for championships in the past and has won a lot of races. We really believe that we’ll come out of the gate competitive with a chance to win.”

As Morgan-Dollar Motorsports, the team has won 13 races with drivers Dennis Setzer, Bobby Labonte, and Clint Bowyer. With Setzer at the wheel, the team finished second in the series standings from 2003 through 2005. The team has entered each race in 2008 with drivers A.J. Allmendinger, Aric Almirola, Landon Cassill, Erin Crocker, Timothy Peters, Regan Smith and Scott Speed. The team has three top-ten finishes so far in 2008; Speed scored a tenth-place finish at Martinsville while Cassill has finishes of ninth at Charlotte and third at Milwaukee.

Daytona Notes:Jul 03, 2008 at 02:36 PM

We learned some things from practice #1 at Daytona International Speedway
-Actor Patrick Dempsey has an invitation by Dale Earnhardt Jr. to drive his #88, in exchange for a cameo on Grey's Anatomy
-Elliott Sadler is engaged to Amanda Prince
-Kurt Busch pounded the wall hard after a tire blew, he is going to a backup car
-Martin Truex Jr.'s car failed pre-practice inspection and the #1 car was taken by NASCAR. Truex is going to a backup car, and will most likely be fined and penalized.

speaking of a super team... Mark Martin, Dale Jr, Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon.. ON THE SAME TEAM!!! MY GOODNESS!!!

Mark Martin has been retired for like 4 years now though.

I say this race will come down to Hendrick vs. Gibbs.... my money is on Stewart.

Just checked out DEI's website.

Aric Almirola will be driving the #8 car in 2009.

The 24 year old Tampa, FL native was sharing the #8 driving duties with veteran Mark Martin.
He will now be taking over full time when Martin leaves in the 2009 season.

Thriller @ Daytona: Busch Wins I'm not a fan of Busch, but the kid sure can `drive, or he'slucky as heck : )

Daytona under the lights certainly didn't disappoint as one of the most exciting races of the year.
[:-]
[:-]
RACE RECAP | CUP SERIES | DAYTONA
(unofficial)
10 Mark Martin
9 Clint Bowyer
8 Dale Earnhardt Jr. led the most laps
7 Kasey Kahne had a severe tire rub
6 Robby Gordon
5 David Ragan
4 Kurt Busch second top 5 in a row
3 Matt Kenseth comeback continues
2 Carl Edwards

VICTORY LANE - KYLE BUSCH WINS
[:-]
1 Kyle Busch wins a wreck-filled thriller for his 6th win of the 2008 season, second straight plate win (Talladega) and now leads the points by 182. Kyle Busch had a scare early on when he complained of a steering problem, and his 18 machine fell off the pace. Kyle fought back after going from 3rd to 37th from that problem.

OTHER STORIES ON THE DAY

-Dale Earnhardt Jr. is now 2nd in points [8D]after Jeff Burton was involved in a spin and a wreck.

-David Gilliland was looking to be a feel good story running top 5, even second for a time, but was caught up in a wreck with Jeff Burton and Ryan Newman.

-Greg Biffle wrecked and finished dead last[X(]

-Jeff Gordon [X(]was the dominant car and was spun running second heading into the Green-White-Checkered flag

-Two restrictor plate "BIG ONES" happened late in the race, including one that ended the race under caution. Among the casualties were Jimmie Johnson, Denny Hamlin, J.J. Yeley (filling in for Stewart) and more.[X(][X(][X(][X(]

-J.J. Yeley filled in for Tony Stewart who had been battling flu-like symptoms throughout the day. Tony went to the infield care center.[X(][X(]<~ I think he just partied 2 much on the 4th : )

-Paul Menard was the pole sitter, the first of his career

Hey what did you guys think of TNT's "Wide Open Coverage" . At the beginning of hte race I coudln't stand it. It seemed like every minute another little box popped up advertising osmething. But as the race went on, they became fewer and fewer, and local breaks were only during the cautions, and I started to get used to this format.

Wally Dallenbach said of Kyle Busch after winning that there were more and more cheers for Kyle Busch... I think he mean't boo's, but I digress.

I wish Carl Edwarsd could have gotten Kyle Busch.. that would have been nice for me
