Oh yeah, under a canopy or under a suite is a bad place to sit... looks tempting and is nice if it rains ,but the noise and as you said, reverberations, or whatever it may be, just make the noise and experience border on unbearable.

Darlington had covers over grandstands until a hurricane took them out in the early 90s. Fans actually liked not having them better, despite the heat.

They weren't too bad until the engines started turning over 7-8 grand the whole circuit in the 80's and 90s.

Grandstands are in the background here. In the foreground is car owner Roger Penske, 1976!

It was a fun time for sure, My son lived in that area for a short time and he was wise to chose the seats in that area otherwise the heat and sun would have been to much. Some of the folks at the race said that the Iron in the area surrounding the track caused some of the issues, with the radio reception and the reverberation, and it was a race that had very few cautions. Mikey was one of them, we used to guess which lap he would wreck. But the 48 was the class of the field and ran away with it.
I enjoyed that experience.

A lot of the same picks - there gonna be some ties.

1. 88 Dale Jr
2. 4 Kevin Harvick
3. 22 Joey Logano

That really looks like everyone else's picks, but I didn't see that combination yet
