Classic NASCAR Photo of the Day

Here is a little Chevrolet history for you. this is Friday Hassler's 1970-71 Chevrolet Chevelle at Texas World Speedway in either 70 or 71.
He was an avid Chevrolet man, running Chevrolet's despite little factory support after about 1963-64. He put up a good effort for an independent without factory race support as well. In 1972, he took a brand new 1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo to Daytona, but died in a crash during his 125 mile qualifier.
As for Texas World Speedway, it came onto the circuit in I believe 1969 and stayed for around 10 years. The owners always had trouble filling the stands, and the track eventually faded into oblivion and was removed from teh schedule. It is most similar to Michigan Raceway, being a 2 mile oval with a decent amount of banking to it.
Greg Biffle set a lap averaging over 200 mph there once in a test... since it isn't a NASCAR sanctioned track, it is open to testing all year and not much NASCAR can do.

STUMPMI, I do believe the first sentence in that post reads.....
The picture is at Texas, the story I told was about his death at Daytona....
As a bonus, here is the video of Hasslers crash that I was referring to....

Classic NASCAR Photo of hte Day.... Glen Wood hauling tires to the pits, sometime in the late 1960s-early 1970s judging by the uniform.
The pit wagons were very advanced back in the day, as you can see. It's similar to the radio flyer wagon that Junior Johnsons crew was using on Lee Roy Yarbrough's Torino at Darlington in another picture I posted.
Do any of you guys think car owners like Rick Hendrick, Jack Roush, or Joe Gibbs would do something like this today?
It's a Don Hunter photo as well... one of these days I'll have to tell you guys why that is important.

I just found this thread today, and even though I'm pretty young, I've kind of been around NASCAR my whole life. My grandpa and I used to watch races together when I was a kid. Even though I don't know much about NASCAR back in the day, I think that this is a pretty cool thread and a good history lesson about racing

But I have noticed they use a similar wagon style to haul the fuel to and from the pits....
Im not familiar with the name Don Hunter...
But now you have my curiosity running...

Classic NASCAR Photo of the Day. This is Fireball Roberts strapping into a 1959-1960 body style Chevrolet Impala. Notice parts of the stock dash and the stock key used to crank the car.
And I believe it may be a Don Hunter photo... not sure though. Not sure he goes back this far. I'll keep annoying you with that trivia until I decide to do a "photo of the day" of Don Hunter
