Michael McDowell survives vicious wreck [/align][align=center][align=center][:-][/align][align=center][/align][align=center]Michael McDowell was part of one of the most horrific crashes seen in NASCAR during his qualifying run. His #00 went off into turn 1 and we saw a puff of smoke coming off the right rear tire, which might have been speedy dry. The car started to go around, Michael seemed to over correct, and the car shot up the racetrack, head on into the SAFER barrier at about 190mph. The inner part of the wall was crushed clear through to the second outside wall beyond the foam. McDowell's car then started to barrel roll 8 or 9 times, catching fire, and completely mangling his race car. Seconds after the car came to a rest, miraculously Michael's window net came down and he climbed from his car okay. This shows just how safe this sport has become, both the SAFER walls, and the new COT did their jobs keeping the driver safe.[/align][/align]
