On this day in 1947, a group of businessmen led by Bill France Sr. met in the rooftop bar of the Streamline Hotel in Daytona Beach, Fla., to write out the rules for the then-chaotic group of dirt track races born from the days of running moonshine in Prohibition. (The Streamline still stands, albeit with a different clientele these days.) The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing that would emerge a few months later would set rules for what kind of cars would race and help fight promoters who weren't above taking the money from drivers and running. NASCAR's one of the most popular sports in America today, but as much as time has changed it, the line "rubbin' is racin'" applied even in the '40s.

Ihad forgotten that day.... ive been to daytona a few times and i need to go by the streamline some time... thanks 'space

I did not know either, but found it this morning when I was on Yahoo...I really enjoyed the short `vid from the 40's.

I thought that you & member's would enjoy

Isn't it amazing what we can learn on the MCF ~>

I wish they would bring back racing like in the short vid in above post...To me, that was Racing 4-Sure...I wish the vid was longer, I really enjoyed `it...

I have to give credit to Google & the web for the majority of subjects/pic's & vid's I find.....It's never ending...How can anyone get bored when they are connected to the `web

It looks like the perfect seedy hotel to take your wife (or someone else's) to conceive your own child in the very same place Nascar was conceived! Only $89!

I really enjoyed that vid & the other one's I found on YouTube...
There were some crazy wild driver's in those old rides..

There's more old races on this link (on the right side once connected)...
Check them `out `if you have time ~> Stock car racing

To me, that's honest `true auto racing 4-Sure...
