I think it's a good call Mike. Last year, the final round of voting only had something like 50 votes. Not that I'm complaining - it got the job done!

If we are doing this later, might I suggest we re-title the winner? I won the 2013 title in 2014. I think the next winner should be called the 2015 Monte of the Year (not the 2014 MOTY). I always thought it was sort of weird being titled after a year that has already lapsed, even more so if we wait longer this time. It doesn't seem so weird to have 2014 MOTM winners vying for the 2015 crown, does it?

 

Looking forward to this. These are always tons of fun.

It's because you were the MotM for a month in 2013, and then won Monte of the Year of the 2013 monthly winners that we name it the way we do.

Does that make sense to everyone, or is that an arbitrary reasoning from me? haha

I understand why MOTY has always been titled the same number as the year MOTM was won. But I don't think it needs to be that way in the future. A few years ago we held the MOTY contest first thing after we decided our 12th MOTM winner. But it seems to get a little later every year. I like the idea of doing it a little later - that makes sense. It also seems like a smart time to reform the title. It seems silly to title a 2014 MOTY later in the year once we are closer to 2016 than 2014 - just because entrants were winners in 2014. It's just like the calendar. We don't make a 2014 calendar for 2014 MOTY winners - we put them in a 2015 calendar cause that's current. And the MOTY on the calendar cover seems 2 years out of date (ex. 2013 winner on 2015 calendar).

That's just my 2 cents. If others prefer to vote for a 2014 winner next it will not hurt my feelings. I'll still be voting. To me it just doesn't feel like we'd be crowning a current champ if we're voting MOTY 2014.

Maybe we can put that to vote while we wait for the real contest to drum up a little buzz? Or maybe no one cares? Maybe I'm being confusing?

 

The calendar cover has to have the MOTY winner from the previous year. (2013 MOTY on the 2015 cover) Because the MOTY contest comes too late to make it for the calendar.

If we're waiting for warm months for MOTY, we're gonna be waiting a long time. And Brent, the MOTY position is currently vacant. Your reign ended December 31st, 2014.

 

Well, now saying the reign ends on Dec 31st is even more silly. That means I was MOTY for 10 months (not a year) because the vote didn't end until near the end of February (MOTTM). And this years winner would be MOTY for even a shorter span.

When Dale Jr wins the Daytona 500, he is the Daytona 500 Champion until the next Daytona 500.

I've said enough. I would have though some MOTM winners would want to chime in as it is their potential crown I'm trying to discuss, not mine. But they aren't taking interest and this ain't my hill to die on...
