Question A deeper, bigger problem?

So I tried to call locksmiths to have them come over to make a passkey II for my 1996 Monte Carlo Z34, and they all said the same thing, " it sounds like a deeper problem, it is most likely not a passkey II problem." So none of them would come and make a key for my car, they all denied me. So I went to Camp Chevrolet and got a key made. The Chevy assistant acted like he knew the whole story when I started to explaine my situation with the Monte not starting, will not crank what so ever, and my security light flashing. He gave me no garuntee that the key will work. Thats it.
Went home and gave it a try.......and nothing. So, I guess that its not the passkey, it maybe a deeper problem, $60 later.
yep, more money waisted
and still nothing!

If you give it gas does it stay running?

Try to unplug the MAF sensor from the intake hose next time and see if it starts up.

X2 on the MAF

Do a tune up also

You might need to bypass your VATS, but that isn't causing the car to cut off. It would cause it to not start though.

How to bypass the VATS system in a late model GM vehicle

Default What is MAF?

I don't know what the MAF is.
Now my Monte is doing the typical passkey II ant-theft, security light flashing, no start, problem.

Mass Air Flow sensor

It's on the throttle body

The link I shared tells you how to bypass the VATS/Passkey II

Default Thank you

Thank you for the link, I checked it out but I need to send I think $35 for the solution. I just posted a new thread on what the current problem is now because I took the anti-theft bypass off that was originally on it when I bought it, and when it ran, then when it stopped running. I bought a Passkey II from Chevrolet thinking that it would solve all prob. No luck.

So I disconnected bypass
Bought a New Key from Camp Chevy
Now no Crank
Flashing Sec. Light

Yours truley
So upset, broke no joke and transpo less- BeckySue

You have to do more than just unhook it from under the dash

You could use an Ohm meter and check the chip in your key, then wire in resistors under the dash, that might help

Otherwise, you need to do what the link I posted says to completely bypass it

As far as it shutting off on you, it could be the MAF, idle air control valve, fuel pressure related... The list goes on and on...

O.k I'll check the ohms on the resistore under dash, but my car doesn't shut off anymore because I took the bypass off that was already on it. Now it doesn't do anything.

its the cyllinder itself that has the issue. the key has no chip like other systems. its ur ignition cyll that has no passlock within.
