what bracket do i need for my 84 MC Q-jet for TV Cable
i limped the car to my mechanic(car wont shift after 2nd) and he's gonna take a look at it. im wondering if i have the right bracket for the tv cable/kickdown cable/throttle since this carb was paired with the th350?(now using a 700r4) im thinking about this because he's gonna check my governor first but im preparing for what else could be the issue. what are you guys using?
Not sure if any of this will help you but I found this from another source. There might be something in there that can give you a idea
"Over at bowtieoverdrive.com they have some under carb bracket set ups for eddys. There is quite a bit of range for adjusting the TV cable. The site is good and has quite a bit of information on how the cable works and how to adjust the cable.

It comes with a new TV cable (worth $40 to them). They might give you a break if you only buy the base plate. You also need to add a throttle bracket with our without cruise:

Not sure how the bracket with cruise would work for our vac pot set up.
We used a quadrajet on a performer intake on a vortec engine. We simply rebent the original bracket and welded a couple of pieces on to allow us to get the gas pedal, cruise control and TV cables all about the same distance from the carb as the originals were. After than we adjusted the TV cable to be the right tension."
"Look on the left hand side of this page - it has an installation guide for several carbs:

"We installed a complete Bowtie OD stage two kit in a 67 Camaro 350, with a 650 Thunder carb on the engine. This included their Edel carb TV setup. I was newer happy with the way the car progressed through the shifts and downshifted.
Could never get the engine to run well on the street with the Thunder carb and have since swapped the Air Gap intake for a Edel RPM spreadbore and I built a Qjet for him. No matter what jets, primary rods, springs, and even bought new venturi and did some modifying of the idle circuit to get that Thunder to run better in the part throttle and power circuits. The conclusion was the Thunder doesn't like a cold intake manifold, big cam(Comp 278 roller), and engine vacuum on the low side at idle.
Back to the trans TV cable to carb question. Initially I built a 1972 qjet for install on his car. It didn't have a TV cable hookup so I welded one onto the carb using this info supplied from here:

Another similar info is here:

What we found was the Bowtie TV carb bracket installed on the Thunder carb was less than ideal for proper TV operation. The first PDF above is what GM uses for TV cable positioning. Measured several Qjets from 200R and 700R vehicles which confirmed the TV point on the carb needs to be 1.016 to 1.125" from the throttle shaft center, and about 22-25 degrees rearward. The Bowtie is only about 10 degrees rearward and I believe not close to 1.125" from the center. This changes the pull on the cable due to the arc of the pivot point, which changes the pressure in the trans at different throttle positions.
We only did a preliminary drive in the car since the manifold/carb swap, due to the over abundance of nuisance snow here in the East, but the trans behaves much better, shifting and downshifting is much improved. In Dec I built him a 1980, 17080298, Qjet with stock TV hookup, this is now on the car."

dude, you definitely know what your talking about lol. i actually came across the TV Made EZ while at work and looks like a good idea. So afterwards, I called my mechanic(who said I should be in the shop next), I asked him if he thinks I need a bracket or a new cable....he assures me that thats not the problem. So while there is good news its also bad news. If he made the bracket work or cable work a year ago and that means the simple governor is the problem, good. If he swaps the governor and it still only shifts to 2nd and not higher, then I probably need new clutches and **** that I cant afford, very bad!! Thank you for the detailed response, I shall refer back should we not correct this problem
Not a problem. I got that information from another source that helped me out quite a bit with my transmission issues. I went through all that last year when I realized the clutches were fried in the transmission of my 84. Unfortunately, I had to replace the tranny with a different one. But at least now I have a shift kit AND a spare transmission (to have rebuilt) if needed in the future. I hope I never have to remove and reinstall another transmission ever again but at least I know how to do it now!!!
Have a great day!!
