6th Gen ('00-'05): "trunk open" message on dash display
Ok...this one has got me stumped. As I go through my sons 2000 Monte Carlo LS, and try to fix all the little quirks for him.
When you push ANY of the buttons under the rear view mirror the little LCD screen on the dash says "Trunk Open" but no map lights turn on........also, the vanity mirrors in the sun visors..when you flip them open, they should light up..they don't....when you flip them open.....you guess it......LCD screen reads out "Trunk Open"
Hoping someone can help me out with this one.

I don't think the mirror/home link was an option on the LS, prolly was added later and the previous owner spliced the wires to the wrong set of wires. Trace the wires from the mirror and see what they're connecting to that should be your first move.
not sure, but this LS has the mirror that is self dimming, and built in map lights. Anyway, I traced the wires back just a bit and sure enough found one that was not connected correctly. Fixed that, and then I put a new bulb in the dome light.....NOTHING..what the????? Then I went to the passenger side fuse bay....and sure enough the fuse was popped....replaced the 10a fuse, and the dome light and map lights lit up. NO MORE open trunk message either.
One fix down.......
One fix down.......

yep...actually there aren't too many problems. That was one of my biggest worries. I HATE electrical problems...they can be so hard to figure out. Things like changing struts, or brakes, or even changing out the fuel pump/sender...relatively easy for me. I just want to get the fuel gauge working again, and am going to call it good, other than some light body touchup work, and a good wax job.
