I dunno, a 78 wouldn't have the same trans, being RWD, so I doubt a clogged cat would effect that trans as much.
I agree, I'm not familiar with Virginia Beach too well but I would see if you can get in the country and remove the cat temporarily. Run the car and test it going into 3rd gear and see if it is still a problem.

I actually think yours might just be a real transmission issue though. It might just be cheaper to swap it out with a rebuilt TH350.

Yeah i know but before i had the blown head gasket fix it was fine. I told the mechanic that one time before that the cat was burning cherry red cause the air/fuel mixture was so rich, and the timing was off badly. He said that cat was still good, but i know for a fact the cat is busted now cause the only way i can shift into third (with a automatic) is to shift from drive to 1 on my gear box.

I took her out on the freeway yesterday and she was trying so hard to kick into 3rd she revved high for a bit and i can fell the car jolting a bit then it kicked into third. once i get paid im going to have it checked out.

i really dont think its the transmission 04 int... but i will get a better answer once i get that cat looked at. I already have a rebuilt TH350 in... i'm not eliminating that out either im just almost 100% sure its my cat.

Ok, yeah, since you havea rebuilt in there already I wouldn't think that the problem either.... Just have to try headers on out... or just replace the cat with some strait pipe and see what happens.

Does it just take extra time or does it NOT go into 3rd at all?
