Yesterday my transmission isn't shifting out of low gear. I noticed a feeling of hesitation when I was driving yesterday and then as I was driving I noticed it wasn't shifting. The car has 211,000 miles and the transmission hasn't been serviced in a while unfortunately due to various things. Is there anything anyone recommends?

Gonna have to go to a shop. Could be a solenoid, could be hard part failure. But if the trans has 211,000 miles on it, then you are a lucky person!

 

I was getting a code for the solenoid, but it hasn't set the check engine light yet. Thanks for your reply too, you're probably right

 

The fluid is dirty and I've been reading things about dropping the pan and just changing half of the fluid. Maybe that would work? But I'm scared to do that of course with all of the mileage

 

If it was slipping, I would say yes try the fluid. But you are talking about it refusing to shift, which I don't think would be fluid related unless you are almost out, or way too full.

 

I might try draining a little bit out and see if that changes anything

 

Pull the dipstick and check the level before you remove anything

 

could be the cat? have you ever replaced?

 

I've thought about that after reading other posts. I've had mine replaced about 9 or 10 years ago with the downpipe from zzp. Maybe I should take it to get tested.
