Last night, a notification that said "service traction control" came on the dash. I didn't really think of it too much, but today I've had some unique issues with my monte. I was stopped in traffic, and when I stepped on the gas pedal, nothing happened. It was strange. No revving of the engine or anything. This happened three times today, and the third time my steering wheel locked up. I would solve the issue temporarily by shutting off the engine and pulling the key out, but I just wanted to know if anyone else has had this issue.

Only time I've gotten that warning was when my battery was going dead thanks to an alternator that decided to crap out on me... It was quickly followed by just about every other warning light on the dash lighting up as well. This certainly isn't a similar problem as the one you describe. I hope you can solve it soon!

 

Having just had a misfire that somehow took out my traction control, and given your symptoms (not the same as mine), I would have your ignition system checked. Plugs, wires, coils, and the ECM.
