Tachometer not Working

I just bought an 85 monte ss and the tachometer doesn't work below 3,000 rpm. If i get it above 3,000 it works but wont go below it. not sure if its something fixable or if i just need to buy a new one.

is it the original tach in gauge cluster or aftermarket? I assume it's original it probably needs recalibrated. A little over $100 for new one.
