Over a month ago I had the SES light come on. I've seen this light very little in the 15 years I've owned my Monte.

My friend had a reader; it showed P0102: "Mass Air Flow circ. low input" Now, I know enough not to just slap a new MAF sensor in there. A new one costs over $100. So, I'm kinda **** about researching a problem, and the car was drivable so I took my time. I did remove the throttle body and cleaned it and the throttle plate. It was pretty nasty, especially behind/downstream. Removed and cleaned the EGR valve, new gasket. The Throttle position sensor is pretty easy to test with a multimeter so I did that, it passed. The Idle control valve was only $30 so I threw one at it. Problem still there. There is a good web site that tells how to test sensors, but to test the MAF you need a multimeter that can read Hz. One site even said a bad ground to the PCM could cause this so I removed the PCM and cleaned all.

I finally broke down and bought a reman Cardone MAF at my local Auto Zone. With fingers crossed I installed it. Wa-La! Driving for almost a week now, the light is out and the 199,600 mile engine runs and idles just great. I thought you'd all want to hear a success story!

Congratulations, glad to hear you got it figured out, and from the sounds of it you did some great maintenance work on your car during the process.

Last summer I had to replace both my egr valve and MAF sensor, they both died within a fairly short time of each other, it was kind of aggravating during the process but in the end it is a nice feeling knowing you have new parts under the hood

A week and all is still well! Engine starts, idles and runs well. No check engine light! Just about to turn 200,000 miles.

 

I just got that code today,i already cleaned the maf,it looks already replaced,egr valve,is the the little module standing up on right rear of eng?

 

yes depending on which way your looking at the engine lol, two bolts hold it on and takes under 5 minutes to replace. Odds are you will be able to re use the paper gasket that is on there, but definitely give it a good once over before just in case. I just picked a used one up at a wreckers for under 20 bucks and it has been working great since

 

I see somebody resurrected this thread. The fix I did still good, over 205,000 and all's well!

 

thats good, i replaced mines with some aftermarket before and it crapped out on me less than a year later, i got a AC delco replacement and i havent seen it yet fingers crossed

 

I cleared the 102 code last night and 20 min ride to work and its back on????
