Recently my montes brakes stopped locking up under hard braking and at about 50% pressure I could feel that the brakes wouldn't get any more effective past that. My own experience and a mechanic friend pointed toward the brake booster being the problem. I replaced it and the brakes are working much better (probably perfectly) but I cant help to think that the brakes are WAY to easy to press. The brake pedal doesn't sink when I stop at lights and under normal braking feels fine. After I bring the car to a stop though the brake pedal doesn't get any harder to press from the minimum point to keep the car stopped, all the way to the floor. I've put 20,000 miles on the car and the brake pedal always felt the same. Are the brakes okay? Or is something wrong with the new booster (or possibly another component) that's causing the brake pedal to give very little resistance? Sorry for the long post, just trying to give as much info right off the bat.

 

Well it would be nice to know what kind of car you have and a few more details.
In my own experience the longer the brake pads are on the car the more distance it will take to stop it sometimes. I have noticed this with my SUV the wife will slam on the brakes instead of easing up to them and this will create extreme wear on the life of the Brakes.
Assuming you have disc brakes you may want to look into replacing the rotors and the pads unless the rotors can be turned, I can get a long fine with my Brakes on the Monte Carlo because it is only me driving it and I only use them at lights in town and I never jump on them like the wife does.

Back in 2009 my son moved to Phoenix AZ The last leg of the trip was from Flagstaff to Phoenix mountain driving I drove his truck with his car on a trailer behind it.
When we got to Phoenix my daughter-in-law told me that she thought there was something wrong with the truck cause the Brake lights never came on all the way to Phoenix.
I said no they were good. I never used them.
Of course I did it all by shifting, kept the thing out of the runaway truck lane stop thing. Lol

 

Generally with power brakes and car on driving. Its uniform unless u slam the brakes. The booster and power brakes see to that. If u have car parked and off and u pump brakes, it will get harder untill they wont pump,anymore. Thats when ur booster surplus is empty untill recharged by air from engine running. Rusted rotors can cause loose braking untill the pad remates with actual metal. I bought load cells you put where pad goes and press brakes to get a reading to check force as i had similiar problem. Showed bad brake bleeding and later replaced calipers. Fixed.
