Default Start problem: Injector?

Hi Guys, my '99 Z34 is still serving me well. 212,000+ miles!

The last couple of years if I just turn the key to start, it will stumble and quit. However, if I wait for the pump cycle (2 seconds) and then crank, it will start every time. That is my habit now, key on, wait for pump to turn off, crank. I'm guessing leaky injectors? If so, how would I find out which one(s) is leaking? It runs fine after the start.

Any ideas?

You may want to check the Fuel Filter, this could be the culprit especially with the fuel we are using today. This thing should be changed every 25 to 40K.
I also use fuel system cleaners like Lucas brand.

Thanks #3. I'm one of those rare persons that actually change the fuel filter! A new one was just installed this summer. I'll try some injector cleaner; you like Lucas?

Your leaking injector theory may be correct. Had the same problem with the 2000 SS until I replaced all 6 injectors at 100K as a maintenance project and problem went away. Hard to tell which injector leaks with them on the car. A shop can test them off. Might be better off buying a new set. You can get a whole set of OEM injectors on eBay for $80.

I was at a Race or a car show back a few years ago and they had a live demo on the Lucas products, and I was a believer after that. It has worked so far for me.

Thanks Plum, I'll take a look! With 212,000 they don't owe me anything!
