Default Speedometer Says the Car has 0 miles

So I replaced the cluster in my parents monte for them and now the car has 0 miles. Does the dealer need to flash something? It is a brand new gauge cluster and it works great now.

posted by Wayne when he had a gauge cluster for sale!!! read below all the pics and see his respones about legal issues!!

It is a bolt in replacement for any 6th gen Monte carlo (2000 - 2005) EXCEPT the supercharged models, which have a boost gauge instead of the voltmeter.

I bought this 2 1/2 years ago with full intentions of removing the speedometer overlay and putting it in my '04 Intimidator SS. Personal reasons has kept me from doing so. This is a VERY rare item. From what I remember, it has about 29,000 miles on the odometer.

To do a legal install, you must take it to a dealer and have your vehicles mileage transferred to their computer and, and from there to this cluster. Or do as I was going to do (as this cluster doesn't work in my car because it is supercharged) and swap the speedometer overlay with the overlay on your vehicles cluster, which is perfectly legal. Installing this cluster without transferring mileage is odometer tampering, and is a federal offense.

I'm giving my MCF family 1st crack at this item. I'm not listing it on ANY other Monte Carlo forums. I'll leave it here for a week, then if it's not sold, it's going to ebay, where I got it. I'm asking $225 shipped by UPS, and I paid more than that for it.

PM me with questions.

Yay get to pull it again. lol at least it is not hard. Where is the actual mileage stored? is it in the cluster itself or bcm, ecm, etc...

That seems silly to me. If you were a crook you would just swap out a new cluster and you golden. I would think that it would store in the bcm or other brain. I have the original cluster so will get it fixed.

Thanks for the reply though.
