I would say that it depends on what you want to do with the car.
if you want to modify it then i would say the 3.9 becasue if you got the 3.5 it would behard to get it up to the 240 mark of the 3.9
but if you just want a daily driver and dont want to mod then i think the 3.5 would be good because it still has power and a little better MPG

Not to flood you with information, but I should tell you that the 3.5 isn't going to respond as well to mods as the 3.9. With the variable valve timing, AND the variable intake, the 3.9 gives you two different torque ranges to consider, instead of just one. So say you change the exhaust and it is too free flowing and your torque range goes way up in the RPM range.. With a 3.9 this effect is going to be considerably lessened, because the intake tract is specifically set up to enhance the torque ranges. And when the variable intake activates, it basically gives you a re-start of the torque curve, which is why this engine Pulls so incredibly hard.

With my 3.9 on highway ive seen 30-32mpg doin 65. If you stay outta the throttle, it is hard too, you will get good mileage. There are just so many factors that dove me to get the 3.9.
1. 17" wheels
2. Upgraded supspension
3. Dual Exhaust
4. 242hp
With the test drive of both i found a lot of differences the 3.5 seemed top be a bit more cushy and rolled a slight bit more, compared to the 3.9. The power of both cars was also noticably different as well. They are both nice/beautiful cars and they are all Montes. But thats my 2 cents worth.

Significant difference between 3.5 and 3.9?
It's already been posted on the mechanical difference
between the 3.5 L & the 3.9 L,
but
it's like trying to describe the difference between
an Apple & a Orange.

You really have to drive both to get a true comparsion.
I've driven both & to me, there's a major difference.
I would strongly recommend, that you
drive each one. There's still a few on the used cars lots
around the country.
I traded my 05LT 3.8 for my 3.9 & I find the
difference to be like night & day.
(3.8 was only 200 HP & 3.9L 242 HP w/VVT
Not just in performance, but in handling & braking
(both were updated over the 05 in the 2006 LT3).
I hope the 3.9L is as bulletproof as the proven 3.8L.
I'm average 22/24 City
28/31 Hwy MPG
* I drive around the speed limit - Can't afford a ticket : (
+ Increase or cancelled insurance : (
So, take a break from the MCF & go out & find
a LT3 to test drive or `if U R really lucky
you may find an Awesome V8 SS to test drive.
Now, that's one fast Monte.
I'm happy & thankful to have my Monte : )

Peace Out, `Space

Something I just found out.

The LTZ insurance issomehwhat higher than the LT3.

The LT3 insurance is closer to the LT.

If funds are an issue, look for a fully loaded LT3.

Didnt know where to ask this but... Does anyone know why my car has dual exhaust cutouts on the back? Ive noticed on every other 3.5 v6 Monte Carlo that they dont have cutouts. When i went to get my new exhaust put on a few months ago the guy that did it said it is funny that i have those and that im lucky because he doesn't have to cut them out himself. So does anyone know why i have dual exhaust cutouts? Was it a factory error?

Hi `Red,
Do you know the original owner ? He may have special ordered it that way or may have got a rear dual exhaust bumper from a LT3 or S.S. and had dual put on (?)

MCF Moderator Michael did that to his 3.5L

I dont know the owner but my car was completely stock when i bought it. It also only had a single pipe, the original exhaust so it came like this from the factory. Maybe I got really lucky with a one of a kind 1/1 Monte Carlo if anyone has any info on this please share!
