Question rev limiter & upshifts

Newbie here. 1st post.

Have searched forum & have not run on to exactly this problem. Car in question is 03 Monte SS, 3.8 n/a. Have had car about 8 months and am 2nd owner. My very 1st V6 & I don't know a heck of a lot about it.

When I put my foot in it, it hits the rev limiter (about 4000 rpm m/l) before it shifts - I have to lift my foot to get the shift. Very disconcerting. Results in effectively no real acceleration other than at light throttle.

Is this impending trans death or something that can be remedied by programming?

Any assistance appreciated.

Hi Member: Car Addict,
Sorry 2 read that you are having prob's with your Monte.
How many miles on your 03 SS ?
Did you buy it from a private owner or dealer ?
Did you get a CarFax report when your purchased, or
do you know how your Monte was maintained.
Have you had you `Cat converter check ? They are known
to clog, and can affect MPG & Peformance.

Member's, please help Car Addict with your
suggestions...

Bought from dealer. Checked by friend mechanic. No codes. Car has 81 K mi. About 8 K put on by me. Know where car was orig purchased. Was owned by woman lawyer in nearby town. Most mntc records were with the car. Since purchasing, I have replcd t-stat, tires, struts, had rotors turned. Runs good, drives good, decent mileage, everything works. Goes to poop at WOT.

You may not be waiting long enough for it to shift. My 3.4 MC hits the rev limiter at 4k in park, but shifts at 6500 rpm in gear.

Additional Question ?'s
for
Car Addict
When was the last time you had your auto trans serviced ?

Was the fluid/filter changed ?

Have you checked your trans fluid level ?

Make sure fluid is warm, and your Monte is on level ground.
Also, when you pull `out your transmission stick,
smell `it & see `if smells like burning fluid ? ? ?

If a transmission is low on fluid, or the trans filter is
clogged, it can cause problems, especially @ higher Rev's.

Look 4ward to your answers.
Good Luck

Mine hits the rev limiter at 4K in D, so you REALLY want it to shift!

ps I haven't had trans serviced. It is full, and fluid is red, clear, and doesn't stink.

If you transmission has never been serviced to your
knowledge, I think it would be a good investment
to do so. I would suggest finding a competent trustworthy
shop in your area to perform service.

Your shift problem could be in the electronic ?
I again suggest `if one of our member's can not
post a solution. I would find a shop that can hook up
your Monte to their test machine, and maybe
reflash your Monte's Computer.
Keep checking back, many of our tech's only
visit once or twice a week.
