I recently did this to my TrailBlazer. I got a garden hose and cut about 8 foot off one end. I connected the garden hose from the house to the Outlet of the heater core. Then connected the remaining 8' of hose from the Inlet and put it in a 5 gallon bucket.

Turned the water hose on and it reverse flushed the brown sludgy coolant out of my heater core. Disposed of the bad coolant at city dump. Heater blows hot now.
