6th Gen ('00-'05): Remote trunk release drains battery.
First off, the trunk light only works if either the driver’s or passenger’s door is open. When I close the door, the trunk light stays on. It turns on and off using the trunk switch.
If I use the key to manually open the trunk, the battery current is initially 1.8 amp and then drops to .05 amp within a few minutes.
However, if I use the key fob to remotely open the trunk, the horn beeps, the headlights come on, as programmed to do. The battery current is initially 12 amps, and after a while drops to 1.8 amps. The current stays at 1.8 amps indefinitely, draining the battery.
If I use the key fob to remotely open the driver's door, the horn beeps, the headlights come on, as programmed to do. The battery current is initially 12 amps, and after a while drops to 1.8 amps. The current drops to 0.05 amps.
The dome, map, and trunk lights have been changed to an LED equivalent, if that matters.
I changed the trunk light switch, but this did not help.

Hi `Gene, I'm anyone and sometimes >Someone.
I don't have the answer & searched for one & the closest I could come to a same or similar problem was on a Caddy Forum on a 2003 CTS (It's a GM product)...Check the below link & see if it contains anything that may help you until one of our expert tech member's makes a post...Good Luck!
p.s. What year & model is your Monte ? Any electrical Modifications ?
Battery drain on 2003 CTS appears to be on the trunk release circuit

Hi `Gene & you're Welcome, but I wish I had the knowledge to solve your electrical problem. I hope that one of our member's see's your thread (Problem & can assist)...I don't know if LED lights could cause this problem. Have you cleaned all your electrical connections that would affect your trunk remote ?
Wish you good luck on a resolve to this problem. You may have to seek out a expert in this area if no one responds. Lets hope a member does...
