Hey fellas. I've got a '96 with a rear brake that won't release. I've loosened all the lines and went to town on it with a 12lb sledge but it still holds strong. I can't seem to get the adjuster to work. Looking at the other brake it seems that the teeth are made to turn the adjuster out and tighten the brakes but slip in the other direction. Any help to keep me from cutting the damn thing off will be appreciated graciously.

So you're not able to get the drum off? You can try setting and unsetting the parking brake, and you could use some PB blaster.

 

I finally got it just this morning. For anyone who might have this issue, spray the thing with PB blaster, remove the torx bolts (wtf are those, GM?) holding the brake cylinder on, I used a 1/4 wrench. Then literally beat the brakes off of it with a sledge while using the wedge on the tire iron to help pry it off. However that bent the dust cover up.

I had a fellow up the street who had a similar problem and the brakes has wore down the drum and wouldn't release.
