Problem with '05 cruise control

So the cruise in the monte has gone out, and i'm hoping someone can give me a little guidance on where to start looking.

I verified all the fuses are good, and then proceeded to check the electrical cables for breaks and corrosion and they look good.

The cable from the throttle to the cruise module module doesn't really seem to be attached on the throttle side. It goes into a small plastic cam, but it just slides through it. Should this be connected more like the actual throttle cable that uses a post to hold the cable to the throttle?

I plan on looking at the vehicle speed sensor later today to see if it is in good shape or not.

On a related note, does anyone know if it is possible to take the slack out of the throttle cable? I can pull on the cable and hear the pedal in the car flop around.
