Default Power Steering Out!

My power steering pump took a crap yesterday so I took it to Midas to price it out. They wanted $175 for the pump plus install and the pressure hose is also bad. All in all they wanted $575 to do it and I laughed. I went to AutoZone and bought the pump w/ reservoir and the pressure hose for $105 plus I'll get $15 back for the core. So my question to you guys, what is a fair install price on this? I can't do it myself on the ground here at home, I can't lower the cradle, etc. Would it be bad to drive on this for a while? It squeals like a **** but if I can drive it without threatening the rack, etc......

You might be able to do it, is it losing fluid, are you sure its not the belt? My thoughts are of a robot can put it together I should be able to fix it. But idk where the PS pump is on a 01 monte

If it has 3.4 easy ,3.8 a little harder to do., if you keep it full of fluid you can drive it a little while, but it needs to be done ....
Why do you need to lower the cradle ???

Well apparently to replace the pressure hose you have to drop it. Yes it is leaking a LOT of fluid, it wont hold fluid for very long either unfortunately. Is there any write up on this for a Monte or Grand Prix on changing it out?

You can get a Haynes manual to tell you hoe to do it, but if you have to drop the engine I would leaveit for a shop to do.

You need to jack up the car and support it on jack stands to do the work yourself.

Place a drain pan under the vehicle and remove the accessory belt. Jack up the car and put it on stands.

Remove the passenger front tire and wheel assembly. Remove the power steering pressure line from the pump.

Remove the return hose from the pump.

Remove the 2 mounting bolts. Remove the assembly. Remove the pulley from the pump as well as the reservoir. You reuse those two if they aren't bad and just bought a new pump.

Installation:

Install the reservoir to the pump, then the pulley to the new pump. Put the new pump to the engine and bolt back on. Torque to 25lb/ft.

Reattach the Pressure Line and the Return hose to the pump. Put wheel assembly and tire back on. Lower the car, put the belt on. Fill the system back up with fluid and bleed the system. Check for leaks.

Thanks guys, I ended up biting the bullet and bought the parts for $106 and paid Midas $250 to put it in. I need the car for work and school ASAP so I had to get it done. Should have it in an hour or so, but thanks for all the input. Hopefully in the future I wont have to be in a rush to do this and I can take the time to do it myself

UPDATE: Got it back and its much quieter. Mechanic said it would take a while for it to quiet down completely. It makes some noise when i turn the wheel completely to the left or to the right...is this normal? When should I expect it to be silent?? Does anyone have any insight on this?
