Parking brake help
[sm=smiley25.gif]Hey everyone. I posted a hello in the new member forum earlier. Have a question. I have a 2004 SS. My problem is the parking brake is not catching at all. This is my first car with 4 wheel diskbrakes. I know on my old Camaro and Sunbird there was a cable to adjust to the rear drum brakes. I don't even know how a parking brake works on a disk brake. I'm going to pull the wheels off tomorrow and check pads. I topped off the brake fluid today. I need to get a book for this car. This is my first problem with it in the year i have had it.
Thanks

RE: Parking brake help
If you are in the habit of using the Parking Brake quite often ... you might have to adjust some slack out of the Cable. Since you said you had to "Top-Up" the Brake Reservoir ... the Rear Pads might (ALL Pads) need to be replaced.
The cable mechanically pulls the rear brakes on. If the Pads are worn down and the Cable is stretched-out some, too ... you have to get that "Throw" adjusted to accommodate the limited distance the Cable gets pulled by the Pedal or Lever.

RE: Parking brake help
I have an 06 ss, not too sure if the setup is the same or not but i just picked up the HAYNES repair manaual for this car as i had the same problem my driveway is on a hill and when i park i use the brake and over the past 2 years it has become worn down.
In the book i have come to find out that you need to take off the rear rotor because there is a set of small drum brakes inside of the rotor housing. There is an acuator dial that you turn to adjust shoes.
This is new to me i would not have figured it out if i did not buy that book.
Good luck hope you figure it out.
