Default P0446 code

Well the CEL came on this morning and I scanned and came up with a P0446 code for evaporitive system (this is on a 99 Z34 with L36) Anyone run into this problem before? Any help on a simple fix or things to check? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Was going to take it in for an E test today...guess thats off for now. LOL

Have you checked your gas cap to make sure it's tight?

Yes it's good. There is a ridiculous amount of pressure in there when I pull the cap to fill. When my buddy and I attempted(going to need a line wrench as it is very rusty)to change the fuel filter last nite he asked me to pull the cap while he was under the car and told me it looked like the tank sucked on itself when I pulled the cap. And my stalling problem has come back today too..I had thought the EGR I replaced had cured that.

hmm, my Haynes Maual caught legs I guess, thought it was in the trunk, but it's not. Anyway my Code Reader book says EVAP Emission Control System Vent Circuit Malf. Maybe somethings plugged up, if it's not venting, that would explain the extra suckingpressure. Good luck.

Well the new evap vent solenoid I bought today got rid of my CEL and cleared the P0446 code. So I have replaced that and the egr which I had got a code for and fixed the other day and I am back in the "yellow" range on the scanner as far as emissions go.
I am at a loss right now though as the car is still stalling when it gets to operating temperature and the fans click on? It will sit there and purr like a kitten then just start to choke out?
We are learning but I think my buddy and I have come to the end of our rope as far as knowledge goes and the abilities of our scanner to diagnose whatever problem my car seems to be experiencing.

I'm stilling thinking fuel pump. Mainly because it is choking and studdering before it stalls. Usually meaning not enough fuel pressure. So basically fuel pump, fuel filter, dirty injectors. That would be the three things i could think of.

If you have a fuel compression tester, hook it up, and let your car idle for about 5-10 minutes and see what it does. You can also try kicking your fuel tank, near the front, where the fuel pump would be roughly, and seeing if it acts up. Usually a shock like that to the fuel pump will cause it to act up.

'04 Monte 3.4 103K
P0446 1 of 2 w/ P0446 Pending.
The Key, here is " w/ P0446 Pending"
I have NO Leaks. A Brand New Gas Cap. And, I keep tossing this Code ::: When I don't let the car warm-up from Dead Cold before moving-out :::

I am going to REPLACE the Charcoal Canister and the Purge Valve.

I figure at +100K the Canister is Toast.

Comments. Suggestions. Success stories; please!

Rick

This is a pretty old post.

I would save replacing the charcoal canister. It's most likely your purge valve, you can test the resistance on it with a DMM if that's good then check to make sure you lines running to it ain't plugged, make sure you use compressed air to blow through the line.
