You don't need to drive anywhere if the code was there when you unplugged it. Use your scan tool to see if P0171 is still there with the MAF unplugged. You will still see the P0102, but if the P0171 is gone is must be the MAF because your taking it out of the equation. Driving 30 miles is probably OK, you just don't want to go weeks that way. Just leave unplugged to check for the code, then you can plug it back in. I know you said you in an earlier post you replaced the MAF with a non-GM, but it wouldn't be the first time for a defect, especially with remanufactured stuff. Hopefully it came with a warranty.
Gonna drive with it unplugged the 30 miles with it un plugged and see if it throws the 171 code
Don't rule out a leak from the LIM gasket yet. The best way to test that is with a smoke test. There are several Youtube posts about P0171 problems and one of them demonstrates a smoke test and the problem was found to be the LIM gasket. 3800 plastic LIM gaskets are notorious for failure and need to be replaced with Felpro aluminum ones. It would be wise to do this if you plan to keep the car whether it's the source of the problem or not. Replace the faulty GM design UIM with a Dorman reinforced one, and the plastic coolant elbows with aluminum ones while you're at it.
tranny did some funky things too on take off...it should have thrown a 102 code..i didn't have lack of power at all,but the engine did moan on 146 and 95..ok I plugged it back in and we will see how long it takes to come on again.
Sure sounds like the MAF is the problem. There are several posts on Youtube that describe how to test a MAF with a multimeter. You might also want to try spraying soapy water or starting fluid around the LIM & vacuum lines to see if RPM changes while at idle. If it does, you have a leak.
