Default overheating

I have a 2000 Monte Carlo SS 3.8 I have a cooling problem when I am stopped at light or parked idleing my tempature goes up. almost past half. I don't hear the fans come on. But when I am driving on the freeway the car stays cool. Any suggestions oon what it could be?

Sounds like it could be warmer weather.

Fans don't kick on until 212° which is past half. Normal operating temperature is half while driving.

Do you have a HAI on there?

Sounds normal to me. Warmer weather now makes it go up a little past half while sitting and a little below half way while driving.....mine does the same thing so i dont think its anything for you to worry about unless it really starts to go up way past the middle point.

just a FYI
If you ever opened your radiator cap it is a pressurized system there is a bleeder valve by the coolant intake on top of the motor that you need to use to re pressurize the cooling system .

make sure that the radiator cap is on correctly so it can pull the necessary coolant out of the reserve tank and ensure proper flow of fluids
use a small wrench and loosen turn on the car and run the car until coolant starts to bubble out tighten back up only hand tighten do not over do!!
It because it will strip the treads !!!
Once the car cools down over night or for a couple of hours it will be re pressurized and be balanced back out and will flow the coolant correctly
this my or may not be the problem but it is good Info if you did not know .

Every cars gauge is slightly different. My car I can assure you works 100% the way it's supposed to. It's my job to fix and know about how cars work. My gauge will go a needles width past the halfway mark on the gauge before the fans come on. If it runs cool on the road and the fans come on very close to half on the gauge, rest assured THAT IS 100% NORMAL. In very hot weather 28*C or hotter ambient the gauge will go a full tick higher when idling sitting in traffic.
