Default Overhead DIC question

Hi all, I have a 00 Monte SS with almost 140K on the dash. On my overhead DIC when I put on the the one that shows Compass and Outside Temp, I get an "OC" where the temp is supposed to be. It has been like that for as long as I have had the car 2+ years. I have been getting around to getting the major problems fixed first as my car was terribly neglected by the previous owner. I have gotten everything else squared away and want to start on little things and personal touches now. Can anyone tell me what the "OC" means and how to troubleshoot/fix. I have Alldata on my computer but it does not mention it or I have not found the correct thing to search for. Please help. I can get alldata info for anyone who has a question so just let me know. Thanks in advance.

OC stands for Open-Circuit.

That means the temperature gauge on the car is either not hooked up right, or broken completely. I do not know where it is located on the car though.

Yeah I kinda figured that one. I have been looking for it for awhile but can find no mention of it. The only thing that comes back is the coolant temp sensor which was replaced by the way. Not really a big deal but would be nice to know just how hot or cold it is out.

I found out that it's in the upper left side of the radiator support, and it may just be that the 2 wires have come undone. Check around that area, if they are still plugged in, then it's probably the sensor.

Look for Ambient Air Temperature Sensor if you need to replace it. Any parts dealer should have it for ~$20

If you find it, shoot a quick picture so that it may help other members in the future.

It is instructions to remove the Ambient Temp Sensor. It is posted in zip format because the pdf was too big.

I'll do that for you:

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
3. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ambient temperature sensor that is located on the front radiator air baffle.
4. Remove the ambient temperature sensor from the radiator air baffle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the ambient temperature sensor to the radiator air baffle.
2. Connect the electrical connector to the ambient temperature sensor.
3. Lower the vehicle.
4. Connect the negative battery cable.
5. Drive the vehicle at a speed of 32 km/h (20 mph) for approximately one and a half minutes or at a speed of 72 km/h (45 mph) for approximately
one minute in order to obtain the ambient update.
