Default Oh great the "V" job.....

Good afternoon everybody,

Here is my situation, My fiance and I just recently purchased a 2002 MC, it is sweet. It's bright yellow a real head turner, anyways heres our problem. We bought it from Maroone Chevrolet here in Pem Pines with "as is, no warranty", yeah already made a mistake there. But, within the 3 day law we took it to our own mechanic who is a personal friend and very trustworthy, etc etc, who did a check and said it was a "good" car. The only bad thing is it has alot more miles than it should, but we decided to go ahead and take our chance, since we knew we would be doing regular maintenance to keep it going. We have only had it a month and already needs a valve job. One mechanic who is closer to where we live that this is the problem and probly why the person traded it in. Our mechanic is in disbelief and as soon as we can get it 30 miles away to him, we plan on doing this so he can give us the overall "bad news"....lol. Does anyone have an idea of how much this is going to set us back, I know it will be twice as much as the dealership, so that is out of the ?. It is a V6, thank god, and a LS model. I am not very car knowledgeble on the right ?'s to ask exactly....but I do know I had this done once already to an old car. I am sorry this is a lengthy ?, but it feels good to vent.....lol. Is there any hope for me......I really enjoy this car. Thank you and have a nice day

CeeCee, the actual cost can varry alot from state to state and even dealer to dealer. i would call the up and explian to them what has happend even if it is no warrenty you can bitch loud enough they might help you out of good faith. So dealers will other will not depends on weather or not they knew anythign about it or not.

As far as the cars go them selves i have a 03 and love it i have has it since it had 40 miles on it.
the only thing i did right away with it is put in Senthetic oil and did the same for the trans.
the car has treated me verry good. other then the fulty steering shaft (most have this issue) i have had nothign major go wron with the car that was not a easy fix or done fast. and most of those were things liek the pass. side seat not reclining and or not moving forrward both have been fixed since.

If the rest of the car is in real good shape or you think it is somethign you can get in to good shape then i would do the work to it and while they are in the motor ask them what the rest of it looks like . If the rings are shot then the motor is goignt o need to be rebuilt.
If they look at it they can sometimes give you a idea how it looks in there and weather or not the oil wass changed right etc....
Good luck!

you have the 3,4 so i dont knwo alot about them other then what i have put here i have the 3.8 and it is the fourth cvar i have had this motor in and our family has had no major issues with them at all. If we had i would have never bought my car.

Good luck
