Unhappy no odometer/gauges

I have a 2000 monte ss, the problem being that when I turn the key to the on position, the gauges and odometer show nothing.. If you wait long enough the gauges will start to work but cut back out the second they start. Not that this is a huge problem or anything I've just been battling some other major problems lately and I figure if theres an electrical issue I should probably get that straightened out before I replace everything else. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Car has been jerking, stalling, and not starting sometimes. Replaced maf and nothing.. changing fuel pump next I love this car but lately its been a NIGHTMARE.

Like I said ANY suggestions are highly appreciated

Not sure if this helps, but my dad has a 2004 Chevy Trailblazer, and his gauges went crazy and was having stalling issues. We replaced the Igintion switch and that fixed everything. Maybe give that a shot?

Well the gauges actually work fine (except gas) when the car is running, if its not started my stereo and lights come on but no gauges and the lcd information area shows nothing. Sometimes they click on for a second, the information center shows a battery, then nothing. but it starts no problem, its been like this for at least a year, and it hasn't been stalling and acting up until recently. Does this sound familiar at all?
