Default new gas cap

Hey All,
Been around this forum almost daily since October but I really am more of a reader than a poster.
I got a 2006 SS

And now i got something to write about:
I got a new gas cap!

My old one has come loose a couple times (triggering on the tighten gas cap text/light) and this last time the cap popped right off.
The check engine light came on - but no tighten gas cap text

I replaced the cap yesterday with a new GM one and i'm hoping after a bit of driving the engine light will go off.
Dealer (without scanning it) said that was most likely the issue, and it goes off after a few days of driving.

Nothing too exciting, just seeing if anyone else has gone through this.

Replaced the gas cap on my parents' 06 SS as they were having issues too.

Just disconnect the negative terminal and reset the light that way

I can't believe a gas cap can go bad................

Mine is doing the same thing for 2 weeks now. First thing I get "tighten gas cap" message twice, then after that a CEL light. I erase the code and the same thing happens again........

It's typically the seal of the gas cap that goes bad.

Ok so i got a new new GM dealer gas cap, although its slightly different than the one that came with the car (just thinking...maybe my car didnt have the original?)
I bought a canOBD2Scanner for $50, checked the code - yep, it was a faulty or loose cap
Cleared the engine light like it told me to do. So far so good.
