Need opinion on 2006 vs 2001 Monte Ss, Ls
Hello, I have a chance to buy a 06 Monte Ls for around $6500, pretty plain. I want to trade my 2001 SS LOADED towards it, I'd get a pretty good trade on mine. My question is, do you think a trade would be a good one (mine +$1000-$1500) for the newer one with a ton less miles, and I have a chance to buy a 5.3 V8 and trans for $1300 and just drop that in ! (then sell the v6-3900) I have also found an entire set of leather seats for $200 ....I would be able to recoup some cash by selling the motor, interior, wheels... So I basically would have a total of $2800 for a swap of the 2 cars. I get lower miles, newer car, a lot bigger motor..... I just need opinions positive and negitives... Thanks... Mjc...
I don't think buying a bare-bones LS and trying to make it an SS is a good idea.
It's not just the engine that is different. You lose the suspension, TPMS, and plenty of other options, which you will probably have a problem with when you swap the PCM/ECM.

X 2 with chibi. The LS car would probably have a 3.5 in it anyway.
Doing an engine swap in newer cars requires PCM/BCM/TCM replacements or reprogramming, altered or replaced wire harnesses, and sometimes different underhood items that you wouldn't think of like rad/fans/ac condensor etc. you would need a v8 alternator, starter, ps pump, water pump, and the list goes on.
I would just find an SS V8 car if that's what you really want. Doing a conversion is only good if A: you can do everything yourself. B: you have a totalled donation car. C: you want to beat the insurance company with lower rates off the VIN. (not that anyone does that cuz it would be illegal...
