Default need advice

hope this is the right sections for this but i have some questions for you guys, ive been looking for a monte carlo and have found one in my budget with everything i want and have been talking back an forth with the guy and so far its looking pretty good, its an 85 monte ss that has had a 350 put into it, anyway i am wanting to get a kind of blue print out for this car and would like your guys experience, what would be the best way to knock time off my quarter mile, i want a dd but be able to keep up with some local camaros and mustangs etc, so i was wondering what was the best option to make this car a little street beast? alot of people say H/C/I or supercharger, or would suspension be the best option? any advice would be greatly appreciated guys thanks!(sorry for the long post)

first thing i would do is get the numbers off that motor and make sure its a 350 and not a 305. then i would want to know what it came out of and what its got goin for it. this should help you decode the numbers.

depending on your budget taking out a 5.0 would only take gearing headers, intake, carb if the 5.0 is just bolt on. now an ls1 car i dont think will happen with a factory cam or heads unless there decent. i would probably do intake carb and headers with a little bit of convertor and some gearing. on the suspension side of things a set of traction bars and a wide tire should help a little. it wont be lightning quick but stop light to stop light it should hold its own.

Didn't the 1987 Monte Carlo SS come with a turbo charger? You could look into getting one of those, that'd make your car lightning quick.

the only monte carlo to my knowledge that came with a turbo was the 80-81 with the 3.8 carbureted, and that car was far from lightning quick.

Well I thought I saw an '88 Monte with a turbo, it was a rare make, but maybe i'm wrong. But there are plenty of drag Monte's that have modern turbos on them, that's still an option, and the best way to blow an LS1 out of the water

you could drop a 454 in and have a pretty fun street car, but obviously you would have to upgrade the rest of your drivetrain accordingly if you wanted to do it the right way. you can build a bad a$$ 454 for around 2k, or maybe even less.

otherwise, you can get crazy hp and torque numbers from a well built sbc 400 also. if i ever get a 3rd gen monte or any other vintage muscle car, a 400 is what i would choose imo
