Default Mufflers ...

2003 SS
42,00 miles
Completely stock exhaust

Just went yesterday & had the resonator cut out & a pipe welded in its place.

The next step I want to tackle is the mufflers. Minus the resonator, there is a tad more "raspiness", but hardly anyone would notice except me, or someone who knew what these cars sounded like to begin with.

I know there are a million, OK, maybe a 150, avenues to take here, but what I want to do, for now, is to replace the stock mufflers with ones that will (if possible) give a "deep, throaty" rumble.

Yikes! Magnaflow. Dynomax. Flowmaster. Ugh ..

My friend, the exhaust guy, said to just remove the mufflers completely. I think that would be a TAD too much ... though I love the idea of it. Then he offered the idea of putting in a glasspack where the resonator was, then eliminate the mufflers. Not too keen on that idea, either. Now a pair of glasspacks on a pickup truck that is draggin' *** downhill & ya cog it down a gear or 2 & the compression holds ya back & the packs bark & snap all the way down, that is music ... cuz I have down it ..., but that is different than putting one on a 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. Agreed?

At this point in time I cannot afford to mess with the exhaust from the block to the muffler(s) ... But likely will in the future ...

There's a good chance you won't like any sound that any mufflers will give you. These cars honestly don't sound that great. They will always rasp after 3k RPMs.

With that said, I have a full magnaflow cat-back that GMPP used to sell.

So then pretty much any & all exhaust mods (on a 3.8L) are done for performance reasons only?

I have flowmaster delts 40s on mine with 2 1/2" cat back to the mufflers... (even the Y pipe)

I LOVE the sound of my exhaust.
the only thing to remember about flowmaster is to put a foot of pipe between the muffler and outlet.

I also just put on a tahoe catalyc converter... its smaller than stock, and throws a check engine light if I hold the throttle too long, but completely changed the sound and a bit of a change on performance.

I've got Magnaflow mufflers on mine, now granted I have a 3400 (which sounds better than the 3800s) and when it hits 3k RPMs and above it sounds GREAT! It doesn't rasp, it just drones from 1500-2250 RPMs (1750 is the absolute worst spot). But you'll get that with aftermarket exhaust. I also have the stock resonator.

I've got 2 straight through foot long glass packs then splits to y with some nice chrome tips I think its sounds great with 3800 nothing to special though, if I would've done it I would've put atleast 1 glasspack with pockets for back pressure but I bought it that way

Were exactly is the glass pack set? It sounds like. Correct me please. Instead of the ressenator you have the glass pack in its place. HHHMMMMMMMMMMMM. True?????? No mufflers? Any problems with the cops?
