Monte Carlo on a Corvette Chassis
It wouldn't exactly be "wasting a Vette" if you could pick up something like this. The wheel base is about 6 inches short of a Monte's. I'm not sure how everything else would line up either. You'd have to hack away quite a bit of the body of your Monte to stuff this exact roller under it, but with some custom work I'm sure it could be done in time. I'm not sure what kind of price to expect for these parts, but 6k for engine, trans, entire drivetrain? Doesn't seem to bad to me I guess? IDK. It's definitely not going to be cheap, but something like this could be a decent start if you want an LS1 and auto.

As previously mentioned, for the right amount of dollars, you can do any modification to your Monte. It sucks that threads like this come up every once in a while, but very very few ever follow through. I'm another member who would love to do this someday. It's no surprise that it won't be anytime soon. Only thing I'm currently doing to preserve my Monte is storing it for the up and coming Winters. If I could pick up a vette or f-body to get my project going, it would be great. But I'm not gathering any parts until I'm out of college
Anyways, an F-body may be easier, but then again, with something this custom, no part about it should be easy. At least in my opinion it shouldn't be easy, but that is what would make it fun and unique. Any easy engine swap is easily looked over (such as L67, L32, 5.3 swap, etc.) But convert it to RWD, no matter what power system you use, it will stand out. Only crap I ever get about my car at car shows is anyone and everyone telling me they wished these cars would have been RWD. Seeing how I hear it at least once every time I show the car, it's become my motivation to get this done after school. Best of luck with any progress you make, should you go through with this

Re-read your initial post to find that your particular question was about a Z06.
Here's a link to the drivetrain of a Z06. Low miles and six speed
